Starting a Few Seeds Using the Winter Sowing Method + Seed Haul! Garden Answer strgazr04: I've never winter sowed seeds before. I'm in zone 7a (Long Island, NY. Does anyone know where I can find a list of things I can winter sow? Or a timeline of when I should start specific things? I'm starting to purchase seeds (mostly for my spring/summer vegetable garden) and I'd love to get a jump start. I just found these double petunia seeds on the Park Seed website. I know violets and petunias are usually some of the first flowers available in the spring. So when should I start sowing those?

Im dying to try this! I did it last year with the 2 liter soda bottles and it didnt work too well. I do t have grow lights so Im really hoping this works! Im in zone 9B, northern Calif. But we have sorta of a micro climate because we live by a lake. When would I start veggies? March? Tomatoes, squash, cantaloupe, peppers, cucumbers
Thankyou!

Just got my first Baker Creek seeds the past week and will be starting my winter sowing since it's snowing here in NC - lots of poppies myself. And the Snail Vine! I got it too. You need to try Balloon Milkweed some time. You would love them for flower arranging too.

Thanks for sharing about the winter sowing method! I am so intrigued and can't wait to start seeds this year. Love watching you guys. Do you have a copy of the seed spreadsheet format you could share? I am struggling to organize all the gardening things. ..

I'm surprised you didn't have Baker Creek listed in your links! Had to really look closely at the packets you were holding to figure out where you'd gotten all these amazing seeds. I really wanted to give you the credit for buying from them.

Great video! Some of those plants look very unique and interesting. I can't wait to see how they do! In addition to showing your seed spreadsheet, a video on how to store and organize seeds would be helpful too!

I'm confused, maybe someone can answer, I thought she said that she has to check the outdoor containers a lot to make sure they don't dry out, but then she said that she wouldn't need to check them at all. Help!

I sowed Gillia seeds for the past 2 years. They do indeed attract pollinators very well.
The flowers are much smaller than I expected. The picture on the seed package looked like much larger flower clusters.

I hear that comment about milk jugs being unsightly alot, and I just don't see it. unless they are randomly strewn all over the yard, I guess. If they are place neatly, I don't think they look unsightly at all.
