New Garden Update: Weeding, Thinning Seedlings, & Planting! Garden Answer KatieD: Everything looks really good in this garden. I love it. And I liked that Astro Rose Cream sunflower? Never heard of that one, what beautiful colors! And Benjamin was a great helper as always! Kids and gardening is a match made in Heaven. And I laughed out loud when you asked Aaron (spelling) if he was there to help plant corn and he just laughed, like Oh no. Have you ever planted or used Korean Burnet? It's kind of like bunny tails but they're pink and kind of bow a little bit like a sedge? I saw that this year online and thought it was super beautiful (and fun, but I don't even know if it's sold in the U. S. Your bunny tails (which are great) made me think of that so I'm wondering what you think of those or if you'd used them. Keep on gardening!

I just came across your videos a few weeks ago and I am so grateful that I did! Your format and content are perfect-I've watched many hours already. Though I've been a bit of a gardener for years, I am amazed at how much I have learned and how much more confidence I have in my gardening. Many, many thanks for your wisdom, joy and enthusiasm! I liked the beauty and simplicity of the low brick border that you put in a section of the garden. I believe you mentioned that it is just dry stacked. Can you explain a bit more about this? Is this only for a temporary border or could this work permanently?

It was hilarious when Laura discovered that a package of seeds must be missing and then with her eagle eye, finds that the package had fallen off the gator! I love using my hoe for weeding, especially the small ones because I can be upright, so much easier for the back and knees. Courtesy of Laura, I just bought my first Dramm watering wand and I can't wait to get the Dramm 1000PLC Ultra Soft Water Breaker from Amazon. I didn't get the purpose of the corn thinning! Now I am inspired to go do some weeding!

I love how you've set up this space, it looks amazing! Question: do you typically find the corn is pollinated effectively when planted in a single or double row? I want to try growing it, but have been told I need to plant in a grid pattern so the wind can better move the pollen around the block of plants. I don't really have room for a grid, so am keen to hear what your success rate is with a row instead. Also, am going to get myself a hoe, thanks for the inspiration! Sick of hand pulling all my weeds lol!

Hey Laura! I am so loving the posts lately and the garden is really coming together! I have a quick question. I can never find the proven winners supertunias here in Tennessee
So I ordered supertunia vista bubblegum and the blooms are so much smaller than the ones you planted today and in
The past. Im hoping they just need some Sun to make the blooms bigger. Any thoughts?

Wow, wow, wow. Just thinking about how that piece of land was just a few short years ago. it looked like dry desert. Each year the amount of crops you have had have been amazing! But this year, everything is so strategically placed. Which doesn't completely surprise me, its just its a work of ART now! So amazing your creativity is through plants! Love watching!

Im so jealous! I have rabbits, squirrels, woodchucks, moles, deer I use sprays, netting, mousetraps, electric fencing- The snow peas are totally gone, the cukes are 6 in tall, because theyve been chewed down several times, Im fighting to get a single zucchini, the sunflowers keep getting eaten down. I never hear you mention critters!

So grateful I saw this video. It gave me permission to buy a weeding tool. Even though I am retired and have time, the weeds were really getting away from me. But I also would never dream of doing something other than pulling the weeds. But after what you said, I ordered a stirrup weeder today! I already feel better. Thanks!

Hi Laura and Aaron! That area is coming along nicely. I don't remember what video it was (not one of yours) that said to wrap the base of the stems on zucchini plants with aluminum foil to keep the vine borers off. I've done it for several years and it seems to be working. Thank you so much for sharing!

While in my vegetable garden scouting for pests, I've had the idea to attach a small mirror to the end of an adjustable rod so I can use it to find squash bug eggs (and other insects such as lacebug) on the undersides of leaves. I'd market it as The Bug Revealer.
