I live in the deep south and I ve tried for many years to grow lavender. I ve tried raised beds, containers and straight in the ground and never have had any success. The only places I ve ever seen them for sale in my area were in big box stores like Lowes probably not the right type for our area. Never see them in local nurseries either I guess most varieties just really struggle in our extreme humidity and rain. Thank you for such an informative video!
Ugh well Laura you can have your glorious lavender and I ll keep my azaleas and gardenias. Much love from Alabama!

I took the leap and purchased 3 different labendars this spring to see how they would perform at my new home of some random varieties that looked beautiful.
When naming the common varieties you have grown I was SO surprised to see my 2 English types being the first you mentioned! (My third type is a French, those leaves ARE stunning)
Now I can grow them with a little more confidence knowing there is some Laura approved varieties in my space.

We planted phenomenal in our south central Virginia (7a) garden in 2021 and it s now huge! Thank you for explaining the different varieties, now I know where phenomenal falls. It did not bloom in its first year, so someone told me not to cut it back, so I didn t and the plant has developed the woody base I ve heard you talk about. What harm will it do if I shear it back, and when should I do that?

I ripped out a few of my grandmothers 15 year old lavenders, they had huge woody bases. I replaced them with seedlings that I had grown this year. (Pinch them back early to force branching)
Lavender does well here in southern Ontario Canada. Never, ever blooms twice though. (The English kind at least)

Hi Laura, I have a quick question. Wondering if I planted lavender along my driveway and snow was piled on it all winter, Would they not be happy because of all the moisture? I really love lavender but they always seem to not do well for me. Thank you

I love the color and smell of lavender. It's done okay in my garden. A few plant here and there. I tried a hedge but didn't take. I live in St. Louis which has clay soil and high humidity. I'll have to look into the high humidity varieties. Thanks.

I have a few varieties of lavender in my garden in zone 5b upstate NY and have had success this year growing them from seed. Can lavender be used as a houseplant or does it need the cold to produce flowers well?

Okay, I'm not gonna lie. I saw the thumbnail and thought it might be a long awaited sequel to the blue flowers vid. I have been hoping for a purple video for so long. Not that this isn't also interesting.

Good morning from the western side of Oregon. It's always a treat to find Laura when I haven't been able to sleep. And good morning to those of you who have already been up for hours in the Morning Light.

I have only found Spanish Lavender where I live. It has the tufts at the top of the bloom. It has not been very winter hardy for me. Pacific Northwest Canada zone 7
