Great video Danielle! When you and I were talking late last year, you mentioned that you were going to rely on bulbs and perennials more this year for cut flowers. That really stuck with me and helped me rethink some things in my garden! While I am still starting seeds and I know you probably are too, my thoughts have shifted to an easier and more enjoyable way to grow flowers. Thank you for the inspiration

Another wonderful video! Love Grace just being herself in the yard with you.
You inspire me to put more bulbs in! Thanks for explaining how you don't end up butchering all the nice bulbs you already have on the ground with your shovel. I'm kind of hooked on bare root perennials too. Hadn't thought about their advantages when it comes to planting around bulbs. Great idea!

Yep, winter therapy: order more plants than you know what to do with. Really, the internet makes it too easy to buy things! You will find a home for everything. Zone 7 Lower Hudson Valley NY: witch hazel blooming, snow drops up and hellebores in full bud. I know we will probably get a nice big snow storm in March, but the planting season is getting close.

So happy to see you out in your lovely garden again. (That was a mockingbird. Catbirds are one of my favorites but I rarely see them - you are so lucky to have them frequently and I love hearing/seeing them in your garden. I’m always amazed by the vision(s) you have for your garden. That is something I struggle with in a major way.

the video! The excitement of seeing spring coming into Ohio has caused the itch to be worse. I bleeding hearts, childhood memories of them blooming. But i never knew there are 2 different varieties. I'll need to pay attention to that. The folage would be ideal in a fairy garden. SO many wants. so little time. Take care.

Thank you for the book recommendations! Hoping my library might have them. Your details about the bleeding heart plants is so helpful. Your garden is indeed very romantic and the four legged furry composter makes it so realistic and heartwarming, too.

Hi Danielle thanks for the info on planting bare root perennials I appreciate it. I joined up my two separate gardens last year, it was a wonderful transition and came together beautifully. I'm looking forward to seeing the transformation in your garden.

I’m just about to plant some bleeding hearts and you just answered my question as to whether I needed to bury the new shoots! Thank you! Also, you are such a sweet mom providing those cute fuzzy slippers for Gracie in the garden library! She loves them!

I just planted five bleeding hearts, barefoot from Longfield gardens. I think I planted them too deep as I harried the spouts too. Should I dig them up and plant them more shallow Thank you for any advice you can offer. Hope you have a wonderful day!

2: 48 Hi Danielle, I'm interested in what you do with your compost pile. Mine is falling apart and simple sounds like a good replacement.
You've inspired me to look at my gardens to figure out how to make rooms and cozy areas. I have a long way to go.

Hi Danielle! So wonderful to see you and Grace in the garden. It's still too snowy, wet and cold in NE Ohio but you give me so much inspiration. I love your redesigned hydrangea annex. It's going to be so beautiful, just like the rest of your garden.

So happy to see spring planting in our region! Danielle, you don’t add starter fertilizer when you plant. Is that because your soil is so good after years of composting My soil is full of clay so I feel like new plants need some help.

I am so envious; my ground is still frozen with some lingering snow. I just planted some bare root blue hosta inside to help me with my gardening urge. The fern leaf bleeding heart may be small, but it does spread quite a bit.

OMG, I just bought some hellebores and the instructions said to wait to plant them after last frost date. I was really hoping to get them in the ground. I live in your area and I think I will put them in the ground today.

I just bought some bare root bleeding heart at Walmart the other day. I was going to start them in a pot, and then after watching your video I realized I can just put it right in the ground! I'm in zone 8a. Thank you!

Definitely going to look for more things in bare root
So glad you buttoned up all the construction and can get back to what you love this season
I guess you will be catching Conan on the Oscars tomorrow night.

It's a mockingbird. Catbirds are slate gray mostly. They're related. Mockers are larger with white wing bars & other white places. Catbirds have a black cap and no white. Both are mimics. I enjoy both of them.

I am so glad you showed the bare root planting. It's always a bit intimidating for me (how deep how much space per plant etc. You made it seem do-able. You have a gorgeous garden. Thanks for sharing.
