Preparing to be ALONE (part 6 of 14) - Discovering a Secret Lake

as I work my way through thick virgin northern boreal forest on my way to a secrete lake with no trail. I discuss some navigational techniques and how to produce a good trail while avoid cutting trees, as well as how not to get lost in areas that are thick, as well as areas that are relatively open; both present issues to the bushwacker. I set my trail camera in effort to catch a moose wandering through the swampy area. I also talk about what makes a good brook trout lake such as low fishing pressure (no ice fishing, little access, no foreign bait minnows, or invasive species like bass and perch

Your brave and smart to bring all that twine you just needed a couple rolls of it. I know the thick woods we have here in up north michigan are challenging to do a long hunt or hike you can get lost so easy everthing looks the same and then most people start to panic which is a mistake. You gotta stay calm stop look listen. Walk out.

Even though it looks shallow, you never know what those lakes will hold. My friend brought me to one of his fishing holes that was pretty much just a beaver pond, and only had a maximum depth of about six feet with weeds throughout. I was very surprised that we were catching some decent sized brookies out of it.

Did you find that larger animals (you mentioned moose) broke through your string line?
Hellova big turtle shell.
Gorgeous virgin lake: )
You said it would be a good spot for moose hunting. I'd hate to have to haul one out of there!

If your secret lake is shallow it could be a moose spa! Probably a predator got that turtle -. Walking game trails certainly increases your chance of encounters, did you run into any?

Beautiful. It is amazing that a lake that big could go undiscovered for so long. Goes to show how vast an area it is there. Bit jealous.

this is epic, enjoying this one more than puddle lake mission so far because there's not millions of lil flies causing chaos lol
