Preparing to be ALONE (part 9 of 14) - Camping Solo Can Be Tough & Fish Dinner

I show you how I fish (troll) in a canoe solo (works with a partner too. I also catch myself some dinner and prepare it, as always, over fire. Then I talk more about solo camping, being alone, and solitude. I talk about why people are social, rather than loners, and frame it in an evolutionary and biological perspective. If you haven't spent a significant amount of time in a foreign environment, for more than a couple days, it's impossible to describe just what it feels like to be totally isolated. I discuss my thoughts and progression through this challenge. After this trip, I have talked to others and there is a pretty wide range of responses to going it solo. Most prefer to camp in a social setting with friends or family, and there are some that go solo for short periods and others still who enjoy doing it for more extended trips. Those that go solo for longer than a week are by far the exception and will often bring a dog as a companion which helps fight loneliness. There seems to be a psychological factor that checks in and around the 5th day. I believe this is likely biologically programmed into people

I got a little mixed up while watching this video.
In the previous eight videos you were looking for, and then eventually discovered the secret lake.
In this video you are in a boat catching fish.
Were you in the pond near your camp, or somewhere else?
I realize that you were not in the lake, sue to the difficulty in trying to portage a canow or boat solo.
Maybe you explained this somewhere, but I missed it.
Thanks!

Very interesting conclusion to this episode. Making me think how my life has transpired when it comes to alone or with company on trips. Selfishly anymore it is alone. I can do what I want when I want etc. On the other hand, I do enjoy bringing young folk into the fold. Largely because they, hopefully, will continue to protect what I love so dearly. I think the older you get the less company one needs. Very thought invoking thanks.

glad you are fishing for small fish. brother decided instead of putting salmon fishing pole into pole holder, and go to sleep, fish bite would wake him up, . yup! . fish bite, pole jumped out of his hands, and into the deep blue sea.
good options for some fish in the area. now some fish remains bait lure for trapping for a bigger animal, beaver, muskrat, weasel, pine martin, mink, badger, raccoon, . and surf and turf dinner!

Hey mate, why don't you try and find a cheap pair of night vision goggles from like an Army surplus or guns store. I'm sure you could kill a lot of nocturnal animals whilst sitting in the pitch dark --

Don't know if you are familiar with Alpacka rafts. something along those lines would be perfect for a trip like this. (Rugged 4-5lb inflatable pack raft) No hauling a canoe or kayak around.

Nice vids. Thanks for sharing. I find every adventure is a little more exciting if you get to share the experience. I find solo hard but maybe the camera helps

I've been VERY happy to be alone, for months at a time, after being in county jail. You just havent been around scads of really obnoxious people, apparently.

Walleye. What is this Walleye you speak of. Lol. Actually first fish I ever caught was a walleye and that was in the 90s seems like they've eluded me since.

Nice perch. I actually like perch better than walleye but both are great! This is a great series man! A little packable tripod will help you out lots.
