This episode features my fire kit including bow drill, lighter, ferro rod, and emergency tinder. I also experiment with some natural wet wipes (moss. The day also brings a mixed bag of weather including rain, periods of sun, wind and then more rain. This sets the stage for some down time. As the day progresses I have time to think about solo tripping and the psychological effects that solitude has on us as a social species

Get some of the very old (wet, decaying) birch bark, just like a wet wipe, and more preferable. Otherwise, get a small diameter conifer bark and (like a bear) shinny (in one direction) up the stick. Then toss the stick far far away, or use across a path stopping critters from crossing into your territory.

Rainy & cold; one of the reasons I always pack a good book, Ignoring the extra weight. Every September I try to go out by myself for 2 weeks, despite my age. For 2 weeks the only one I argue with is myself. I am really enjoying this series. Brian nearing 76

You probably know this, but you can fashion a natural rope by braiding tree cambium strips, might be a challenge to do, full bow drill set from nothing man made.

moss sucks, it just smear the shit around, but its still the best thing to use in the bush,
ppl talks about rocks and sticks, but i have never try it,

a round stone will handle most of the problem, then the moss or leaves, and then water with wood ashes will finish up (and do your shorts, too.
