We hunt alike, I use the same model shotgun, and also believe I should walk as it is part of -Fair Chase-
BTW: as a teen I was once chastised a little bit while at a local bait shop for -Ground Swatting- The bait shop owner humiliated the guy by informing him that -The kid- (Me) was hunting the Grouse by sneaking up on them, crawling on his belly then shooting them with his. 22LR Revolver, that he had repaired after finding it rusting at the bottom of the lake. I thought the poor guy was going to cry he was so embarrassed!

Old single shot cooey 20g's lend themselves great to grouse hunting. Light for long walks, balance perfectly in one hand. You dont need a strap so you're always ready. Full choke for longer shots and busting through brush. I also have a strong nostalgia for a classic Canadian firearm from Cobourg Ont. Calibermag has a terrific online article about their history that I'm sure you'd enjoy. Cheers from N. B.

I've done grouse hunting with a friend, and generally we enjoyed walking the trails, even if it's a cool crisp fall day, with the dog digging through the brush for the birds of the season. Sometimes we strike well, and bring home something to eat, sometimes it's back to beef and corn. Relaxing, and enjoyable either way, even without the thrill of a successful hunt.

My dad always says - the magpies need to eat too. Always thought magpies were pretty birds & they serve a purpose. Can always tell where fresh kills are in the forest by watching for them too. Grouse is like snipe hunting here in the desert. Enjoying your vids today while I rest. Thank you!

In Maine all the grouse are over run by damn turkey's. We used to always limit out until they re introduced turkey. Last time I went we drove around all day and only one we saw was roadkill on the way home. At least I didn't bite into any pellets.

The general advice when it comes to assessing ear protection is it's half of whatever the protection is rated for. This takes into consideration not wearing them properly and similar things.
