I trap muskrat in the creek by the off grid log cabin and treat Kevin and Don from Modern Self Reliance to lunch grilled fresh using the Bitty Big Q at Amazon USA: Amazon USA: Amazon CANADA: Amazon UK: Amazon AUSTRALIA: I use a 120 connibear live trap supplied by Duke as well as some homemade funnel traps to catch river rats, or muskrats to cook fresh. I soaked the muskrat briefly in salt water, then boiled it for several hours in water over an open fire. I removed it, then placed it on the Bitty Big Q to sear it along with some BBQ sauce. I also build a new funnel trap using some 1 wire fencing and some tin shaped into a cone. This works a lot like a minnow trap where the animal goes in, but can't figure out how to escape. All traps used are not only legal, but also ethical, tested to high standards to ensure that animals are taken humanely. I will show you how to catch a wild muskrat using bait, carrots, apples, potatoes on a 110 conibear by Duke traps and also how to set a muskrat funnel trap. I will also so you how to build your own muskrat trap

Hey buddy, I just watched a video of yours where u did the primitive stone cook on the rabbit a few years back. At the end of the video you did shoutouts and a lot of the things you said hit home. I-m 29 years old and I-ve just recently rediscovered how much joy it brings me to be out in nature and provide myself with food when I can. I haven-t enjoyed these things since I was a kid and your videos have been extremely educational and inspiring for me to continue doing all the things that I-ve found make me happy, especially fishing- I hope you continue to make videos and don-t let anyone tell you you-re wrong just because they-re feelings are hurt. What you do is completely natural and it-s pure basic human instinct. period. I-ll refrain from going off on a tangent here on what I think about all that lol but anyway, wish you and ur family well and if you ever do shoutouts again I was also inspired to ask for one.

When trying to trap muskrat, its best to put the trap over a run with no bait. The bait will stop their momentum and change course, so if you put the coni-bear over the run the will just swim right into it. Or you can take a stick and find their holes under the water line of the creek and put the trap at the mouth of the hole. Good luck on future water trapping.

Another great vid. A few questiions:
Why no Woodobo on the scrat?
How does muskrat rate vs. beaver and snowshoe hare?
Why do you feel it is important for game meat to taste like store bought? (I happen to like game meat. Much healthier too)

Typically baited conibears are utilized under ice. I'd say for warmer months you'd be better off setting the conibears in front of their bank den runs or use coil spring or long springs set on where they're feeding.

I don't understand why catching fish with such a trap would be illegal, they are very popular for fishing here. However they are illegal for trapping because the animal drowns, not very humane.

So I gotta ask. did your brother give you that nose because it looks like you might have had a break in the middle? I only ask because I also have a brother and a slight knob caused by a fist lol

Cool, but cooking with the specialty gril, is a cheaters way of doing it, what happened to old style! Damn we would have all died, if we waited for this stuff!

Hello from Alberta(East coaster originally. Where is your cast iron pressure cooker that Fowler uses! First video of yours I watched, quite interesting!

Using real traps instead of primitive traps is the way to go. Real trappers know that primitive traps don-t work well. I hope you do more videos like this -

Set the body traps by a slide where they enter the water or in front of the hole in the bank where they live - can-t believe you don-t know that?
