Wreck fishing is one of my favourite boat fishing sessions. Wrecks can hold good fish generally all year round, it wasn't the easiest day for conditions but I was keen to get amongst some fish. I had recce-d out this wreck a few weeks previously in a different video for Haddocks and wanted to test its potential. The session produced some good fishing and at the same time I show my method for anchoring a wreck using an Alderney ring. I

Another fantastic video.
I have used an Alderney ring when anchoring off Bridlington and Flamborough in my Raider 18 Fisherman but I have to use a continuous loop with a large shackle on and threaded through the bow eye. This allows me to drop the anchor over the side but with the anchor effectively secured and pulling from the bow. This way I don't need to access the bow to secure the anchor and the remaining anchor rope runs on the outside of the boat and into my tough tub on deck where it is stored. Just as well as access to the bow is very, very tricky on a Raider 18 but bow access looks like a much more sensible and safer design with the Orkney.
Thanks for all your videos which are whetting my appetite for when we relocate to Cornwall. Keep them coming.

Interesting video of how you plotted the wreck. I do know how you do it all on your own, thats some depth of water your fishing in. Most of what I fish in is 45 to 55 ft max and i have my opp who is my anchor man. Its surprising how many boats we see that still pull the anchor by hand, seems crazy to me. We half hitch a piece of 2x2 timber just before we put the last 30 ft of rope out, its great as it stops the buoy drifting back under the bow so your buoy sits nicely out front, makes it easier for recovery. Enjoyed your video. We got Northerly seas here at the moment so no chance of getting out.

Hi John. Thanks for the great informative videos, have learnt a great deal. Have gone from kayak fishing to buying a small 2. 7m honwave inflatable with a 6 hp Mariner 4 stroke engine. I live in South Devon, but thinking of spending a couple of days fishing in the Fal estuary and the coast nearby. Could you please advise me where the best place to launch from to access those waters. The boat is not on a trailer, but has sturdy wheels to go down a ramp or off a sheltered beach with parking close nearby
Many thanks,
Phil

Love the videos with boat handling skills. I bought a 2012 Wilson Flyer last year as my first boat and I am still learning all the stuff the RYA Powerboat course doesn't teach you. The other thing I find amazing with your videos is how you stay so clean. I saw the conger slime you a little but when I go fishing I usually end up looking like I have fell into the bait bucket and rolled around a bit

Smart idea with mapping a mark with waypoints. Looks like I will hve to delve into my Garmin manual.
New to -boating-.
I saw on a previous vid you have a different type of anchor. one with a thick bolt and a screw ring. The anchor you showed today was a different type. Do you use different anchors for different depths, sea bottom etc?
I appreciate your time - thanks.

Hi John, I have just sent away for an Alderney ring. At 65 years old pulling an anchor up from depth is exhausting! My question is. what size bouy would be best? I have a Predator 165 and the anchor is a 5kg Bruce with 4 metres of chain attached to 10mm rope. Would an A1 size bouy be big enough, or should I go for an A2 size? Thank you.

Hi, very informative and appreciate how you get down to the -nuts and bolts- of a subject. Have just purchased an Orkney spinner and plan to use it for fair weather fishing out from Newquay. (Any deep water stuff I use the charter boats) Can I ask what bouancy aid you use. Many thanks!
ps. Have you done a vid on trolling for bass?

Had to stop watching, brilliant video, starting to feel quite sea sick. I get sea sick sometimes even on calm days, spoils the fishing most of the time have tried many tablets, and all the so called methods. Maybe you can give some some tips that I haven't tried. Keep up the brilliant video's

Another great video and some top tips but blimey, that water looked a bit lively, you must have guts of iron! A good explanation of the Alderney ring, I've had one on my boat for a while but not used it as I've worried about getting rope round the prop. I'll have a go next outing -
