I used to fish the same way, but I have found that if you tie in the dry as a traditional dropper, your hook up's will increase when the trout start to take the dry, having said that once they switch I cut off the nymph and rely solely on the dry.

I can use a #16 foam humpy and it will float a #18 bead head pheasant tail perfectly. It-s a great dry dropper combination in all the Western mountain streams and smaller tail waters I fish.

As a novice fly fisherman, I'm finding all of this content extremely useful! Thank you gents!
Hopefully I'll be putting together some fly fishing vids of my own soon!
