Hey victor you do some great stuff for viewers and are into all this to help people so i wanted to ask you becasue you do catch alot of sharks. i was offshore maybe 2 or 3 miles and had about a 15 inch whiting on when the pool went off bottom fishing so i think shark, my pole was filled about 250 yards with spider wire 80 lb. and a few feet of flourocarbon leader, i use whats called fish finders so i can switch out weights accordingly and they slide above a heavy duty swivel. so during the course of this hour long fight and chasing the fish i could see my fish finder with its 6 ox weight sliding up and down the line and then the worry set in about the friction and the line finally popped. my question is how do i avoid the friction of a heavy sliding barrel swivel or fish finder unless i just use a 3 way swivel which could still wrap around the line. my primary goal isnt nessecarily sharks but anything big; so i am looking for a better set up that will not increase the friction of a sliding weight thanks.

I used it for the third time today and the rod snapped. >>>nub. best/7yva I don't know what was on the other end of the rod, but it felt heavy. I tried to reel it in without applying too much force, but at one point the rod just snapped. I removed the reel and left the broken rod by the trashcan. Disappointed. I own a lot of two-piece rods (8, but this was the first rod ever in my book to break.

How does having 1/2 a spool of mono that never sees water underneath 1/2 a spool of braid encourage you to change your top 1/4 spool of line more than 1/2 a spool of braid that never sees water underneath 1/2 a spool of braid? At the least, I'd grab cheap stuff from China off ebay to do the bottom 1/2 braid backing and nicer thinner, more trustworthy braid for the top 1/2 that gets fished.

mono cheaper to replace Yep you sure are right, but don't you want the advantages of braid in casting, feel, etc actually used in the water? Besides, if you snag and you will snag, that is what using lighter leaders are for, the sacrificial part in case of snag. Otherwise why even bother with ANY braid backing, just use mono all the way.

i have a bg 5000 and the line capacity on those reels is a bit crazy. dont need braid for it. 17 lb or 20lb mono is fine when i get 300 something yards out of it! plus the stretch of the mono and the resistance through the water will give me that extra drag you would have with braid since braid just cuts right through the water

I am about to buy a Avet 50 in the next fews days, what type of Rod you're using for your setup?
I am trying to stay away of anything with rollers, and I was looking into the ECL50-100 2P with Fuji guides and BentButt from Chaos.

Viktor. what type of fishing offshore were you using the top shot of braid? Just a little confused since I've recognized a top shot of mono/fluoro instead of braid. Trolling with braid has less resistance right? Just not sure why else you'd do a top shot of braid. Let me know and thanks for the knowledge.

So I put Ande mono for backing on my reel (to save. I quickly remembered why I don't use mono for my main line. Due to it coiling up and getting tangled. In your opinion what mono is the best to work with without getting a tangled mess. This will be for backing and top shot. Thanks.

Great video. How often do you plan on changing the mono backing on you Avet reels? How can you tell if mono should be change? I have a Okuma Soltera 50 with 2 year old 80lb Pline that hasn't been used, but has been in the rack on the charter boat getting salt water spray.

Now I like your FG knots but man I love my 30 second Bimini twist for most applications, usually wind on leaders. With tiny extreme swivels 170 lb. works for me all these 50 years
