The Most OVERRATED Eating Fish? : Snook (Catch, Clean and Cook)

My buddy Juno Ryan caught a slot snook while we fished the Jupiter Inlet jetty. Snook Fishing can be frustrating when to trying to catch a slot fish with a size range of 28-32 in. Snook are considered to be one of the best tasting fish we have in Florida and with no commercial market it makes these highly sought after gamefish. What does Everyone think? Highly Overrated table fare, Status Symbol or best eating fish?

I think it really just depends on how it's cooked. You can fry a lot of things and they're going to be good, but as soon as you apply some sort of culinary experience/talent to it everything changes. I have personally had Snook twice, the second time being alongside various Snapper, Grouper and some Redfish. All of the fish were cooked fresh same day using our favorite recipes corresponding to each fish. All of them were great, fantastic even, you could have had only one kind of any of those fish and all would have been happy. Though everyone in my family undoubtedly agreed the Snook was and is the best and always has been. Everyone has their preferences among the rest of the fish under Snook, My mom likes Grouper, my step dad likes Snappers and Redfish and I like various Shark, Mahi, and Redfish as well. Snook just seems to be everyone's favorite.

Hey your dad or grandma ever make the potato salad, without using the can carrot and green beans and instead using fresh carrot and green beans (if so they cook it? I just like to avoid using can products if possible, just like using fresh, but if it isn't worth the hassle then I'd would use it. Just wondering if the fresher version would be even better?

Love watching families cook and eat together like this. my parents have been dead now over 20 years. Really miss those days cooking in the kitchen together with my mom and dad and siblings, and eating together. Please enjoy it my friend, because you turn around one day and they are gone.

Just went to Brownsville texas for work and caught me a snook. Pan fried salt and pepper very simple fish. Good plain tasting and slightly too soft fish when cooked. However I ate some as sashimi and it was pretty good. Would definitely recommend it raw

Food looks amazing. Only recommendation would be to work on knife skills. With a butchers knives you should work on the rocking motion and limit using the tip. Otherwise the food and recipe looked excellent

if you live in southern Florida, There are a few places you can go to buy this fish. Im pretty sure they arent allowed to, but they do it anyway. been shopping there for years now. lol

Skin the fish immediately and trim and blood lines. Will taste soapy almost if you leave the skin on for even an hour. Also bleed it straight off the ruler for the firmer meat

In the 40s & 50s they were nicknamed soap fish. If you leave the skin on every bit of the meat will taste like soap. Never fry Snook. And don't forget the sweet cheeks.

Snook is some of the best eating fish around. Especially for inshore fish. Depends on how thier cleaned and cooked. Got to fillet off the skin or they taste like soap.
