I got a chance to get a full walkthrough of Pelican's new budget-friendly pedal drive kayak. This kayak uses a fin-style drive almost identical to the Hobie Mirage Drive, whose patent has expired, allowing other manufacturers to now produce this proven pedal drive system. This boat boasts a ton of features and a premium pedal drive for the low price tag of 1, 499. Look for this fishing kayak to begin hitting dealers in January of 2019

I noticed the axel going across the middle that fastens into the boat is metal. I have seen a couple of videos where the Hobie models had plastic pins that attached into the kayak and they broke. All 3 videos were models with reverse. Hopefully Hobie fixed this, if not thats going to be much stronger there on the Pelican. I see several comments where people dont take a paddle with them on their peddle drive kayaks. Thats crazy unless the lakes are very small and warm. If you Dave to swim and drag your kayak to shore because the drive has failed, welllll why? Really. If you are on a big lake or in the ocean, nice knowing ya! Probably not, but you are going to be a giant pain the a while your buddy or buddies tow you in, or have to go without a paddle because you didnt have any forethought.
A nicer way to get into the peddle kayak market financially!

If you want to call this well priced, sure. If you want to call this a great deal, Ill buy that. But dont call it affordable. I live in south Florida where rent for a 1 bed 1 bath averages 1200 a month and thats low grade quality.
Affordable is more like 750, regardless what you may say good quality might be priced at.
It could very well be this product will never truly be affordable.

Looks like a nice price point to be honest. Looking into really getting a fishing kayak by next year and the other one i saw that I liked was 1, 799 (Lightening Strike HD. I may just end up going with this and using the extra money on a nice rod setup and some more fishing gear. Opinions? Anybody have time on the water with this Pelican Catch 130HD?

Hey Robert, I'm super interested in a peddle drive kayak, but don't want my first one to be so expensive. I fell in love with this upon viewing it, but can't find a retailer ANYWHERE in California with the 110HDII and the 130HDII that just came out this year. HOW DO I GET ONE!

I'm not a Pelican fan. but I'm stoked to see more pedal/drive style kayaks coming out. Tired of a few companies having the corner on the market and gouging buyers for it. Hopefully it'll make the prices more affordable

You can't go in super shallow water with it without those Rutters hitting bottom would much rather have a propeller you most likely have to have an oar handy I think I'll pass on that one

Zoffinger is going to throw the pedal drive out and put a 6 hp johnson amidships and cruise the river. And make it factory sweet. The Pelican Catch 130 is now on my wish list.
