Robert Field joins Kevin Nakada to get a rundown of the new Hobie Mirage Drive 180 with reverse. This is big. Hobie is being tight-lipped about the retail price for the drive on its own, which will be available in Spring of 2017, but we've heard rumor that the price will be around the 800-900 price range. Hobie has also unveiled a new camo color for their Pro Angler and Outback and a new transducer mount for the Lowrance Total Scan transducer

What do you think, Robert? New shape concerns me. I have a 2014 PA with turbo fins. Very happy with the speed to ease of use ratio (pretty much the same as going for a walk. I wonder if the new fins propel the Pro Angler as well. Love the idea of reverse without having to fumble for the paddle! If it preforms as well, I'll be saving up for the 850 dollar price tag.

Robert Field been google searching can't find an answer to this question. Is there any difference is Hobie PA 14 2017 vs 2016 besides the reverse?
Am asking cause really wanna order it this week, and the 2017 is Oct, don't wanna wait, lol. Besides if its only difference is the reverse, can always buy the drive when released

I have a slight handicap and I have been looking at the Hobie drive system as a possible future purchase. The new drives from Wilderness Systems and Old Town look nice, but the amount of movement to pedal looks extreme compared to Hobie's. It looks like Hobie's would be much easier?

Since I've had my Outback now for about 3 years, I've never really felt the need to go in reverse.
If I do need to stop quickly my backwater paddle does a nice job.
It's nice that Hobie is responding to the competition though.

This is gonna change the way I think about Hobie. I'm a bass fishermen and always eyed on the slayer propel just for the use of reverse, now this comes out and now I'm definitely getting a hobie.

Looks fun. too bad I ripped my patella tendon so badly that this ROM would likely be very uncomfortable for me. Did you consider older people and their knee problems when designing this?

Wierd backwards pedal motion What's so wierd about it? Seems about as intuitive as you can get. Pedal forward, it goes forward. Pedal backward, it goes backward. Yeah that's real weird.

ffs you buy the latest model AI and 1 year later they change the mirage drive, this new mirage drive should of come with the new model AI, a COMPLETE revamp!

Damn that's cool, but now I. looking at over 2500 for a new outback. Yikes! Time to look for a used one cause somebody's gonna want to upgrade.
