Tear-Down: NVIDIA RTX 3080 Founders Edition Disassembly - A Lot Fewer Screws

Tearing down the new NVIDIA RTX 3080 Founders Edition video card. In this one, we take apart the FE step-by-step and mostly blind, figuring out how to take it apart for water blocks & thermals. Disassembling the RTX 3080 Founders Edition was significantly easier than previous video cards by NVIDIA. This time, the company has gotten rid of a significant portion of its screws from the 2080 Founders Edition and 2060 FE cards. We also make points about the 12-pin power connector location on the 3080 FE -- mostly that people shouldn't be asking for it on the end of the card, because that's worse for just about every reason possible (and is exactly what we complained about last time). We reveal the torque spec for the leaf spring screws, talk about the thermal pad thickness and paste, and figure out how to take the thing apart. Remember, this was before any media existed publicly, so we had to do this mostly blind. This is not a how-to guide, but it does show you some of the steps (and you can figure out the ones that you shouldn't copy!).

Serious Question Here: I'm wondering if I should try to get a founders edition 3080 card or a partner 3080 card? Any opinions? I bought an i9-9900k a while ago but I have never bought a GPU I've been using integrated graphics for work, and for streaming, the rest of my system is pretty great... I just waited because I didn't want to bottleneck my System with a GPU that wasn't a very good value at the time. I want to switch from streaming games from my console to streaming games on my PC, but I'm not sure which card I should go for. If you think I should get a partner card please tell me what brand is best i.e. Asus, MSI, EVGA, Aorus... Please and Thank You!

I can't wait for you to get all the 3080 partner cards. My mind is set on one at this point but am just waiting to find out witch ticks all the boxes the best.
Oh and availability of course
In that time AMD could pull something out of a hat But I still remain skeptical on that one.

Love the real world approach on these videos which includes all the usual hiccups etc you encounter with wrenching on anything like pc parts to cars alot of people just edit it where it looks like they do the job in 5mins

There'll be ppl watching this in 5 years time just after they have bought a 3080 2nd hand of ebay, and are wanting to know how to open the card to replace the thermal paste, hi future person.

So it's a blower style fan directly over the gpu, venting immediately out of the back, while the passthrough alleviates the overflow that the blower can't handle. Nice. :)

When I saw that gigant glass plate in the last video, I was 96% sure you were gonna do schlieren :p
edit, also, you probably need the nvidia branded adhesive stick TM

Destroying that tiny piece of plastic completely kills the card's aerodynamic characteristics though. Good luck in the 2020 GPU Toss Championship this year, sucker!

Looks like nvidia took buildzoid's advice and put big gaping holes in the bracket on the end of the card. Let the air flow!

No matter how hard you treat the card - you will never reach the heights of kak-handedness Linus reaches with ease on a daily basis.
