We used Windows 10 for our main Alder Lake reviews already, but now we re doing a performance comparison between Windows 10 vs. Windows 11 on Intel Alder Lake CPUs. This CPU benchmark focuses only on the Intel Core i9-12900K & Core i5-12600K in Windows 10 vs. Windows 11 for gaming, video editing, 3D modeling, and other CPU performance metrics. This takes into account Intel Thread Director and other technologies that should (theoretically) work better with Windows 11; however, as we stated in our 12900K review, many of the benefits are in background efficiency and might not necessarily show up in raw performance reviews or benchmarks.

I love your detailed videos but one thing i find tiresome is how much you defend yourself from all the trolls and haters. You commented in one video how people often skip past setup parts of video or how you do testing but i think it's not a bad thing, most of regular viewers just trust that you are doing your testing properly and want to see the numbers, We don't need to hear you defend yourself for the umpteenth time to try reducing the trolls and haters in the comments. Remember the loud minority of haters will always seem like a larger group then they really are because most of the normal people aren't going video from video commenting hate. I appreciate all your content, just notate normal people will be skipping past all the defense rants as it just doesn't pertain to us, we trust your numbers and testing.

Thank you Steve! As an IT profession which I became thanks to building computers I decided it was worth the pain to switch this weekend so I can be familiar with it. I miss my older wallapers, colors, themes, and a few odd caveats like the volume up/down slider no longer shows what music I am listen to. Windows 11 == Windows 10 2015ish. It was rough and missing so many features that Windows 7 had until 2017 or so. Windows 11 is the future folks! It will come and even Windows XP & Windows 7 took YEARS to become standard.

Have you considered benchmarking games with E-cores disabled? Given those have already an adequate amount of threads available, would it be beneficial not having lower performance cores holding the rendering back in case one thread is saturated at 100%? Would it allow the P-cores to also have power headroom to run a bit faster? Especially in the case of 12700K and 12600K which lower their frequency by quite a lot to stay within power limit.

Wow, how unexpected! Tests like compiling and rendering, which make use of all the cores do not show a difference in an optimization that enables the OS to know which threads of a lightly threaded Application utilise the CPU the most so that they can be moved to the P cores. Thank you for the video it was 19:00 min packed full of information I could never guess 4 Months ago.

Steve, just one thing I would wonder, as you did your original comparison on win10 between Intel and AMD. It would be interesting to see this Intel versus intel across 10/11 repeated, but on AMD, as some places seem to be showing that win11 actually helps AMD perf. Be nice to see AMD versus AMD on win10/11.

I wonder if applications have to be made aware of e cores and p cores to fully take advantage of the new design. it seems like scheduling alone isn't making much of a difference. Personally I think Windows should change to running windows on the e cores and user applications should run on the p cores.

I'm avoiding Intel in general until next gen Ryzen comes out, just because the overwhelming majority of unbiased reviews seem to suggest that Intel hasn't really improved much. Fanboying is out, if Intel beats Zen 4, I'll move back to blue, but it doesn't look like that will be the case just yet.

Could someone explain to a simple man like me - what is the gain of using performance + efficient cores combination instead of scalable cores in desktop computing? Probably in the laptop and server segments, there could be some reasoning but what's in desktop?

Windows 11 is just a crappy excuse to force people to throw away otherwise perfectly good hardware just cuz its a couple years old. As far as I am concerned windows 10 or linux is still and will be the way to go.

If you're doing efficiency comparisons, I would suggest measuring it in energy required per workload, e.g. Wh per Blender job. You might already have it on your list, just wanted to mention it. Keep up the great work!
