Inside the Collapse of Artesian Builds: From 20,000,000 to Bankrupt

This video took us months of work to compile, document, and research. We had to coordinate with landlords, brokers, former employees, lawyers, and more to dig deep into the shady, scummy operation of Artesian Builds and its former CEO Noah Katz, whom we've heard has thrown around the word lawsuit when talking about us. We will never back down from sharing the full story with consumers, especially when so many have been hurt by one company's actions.

What i don't understand. If a customer buys and receives a pc. Doesnt that make them the defacto owner of the machine and its hardware? Even as it gets shipped back for repairs under waranty?
How can those assets be auctioned of if they are no longer company property? I once won an auction to some warehouse stackable boxes and was informed the purchase was canceled because a partner company claimed them as being owned by them. That company had no proof that those exact boxes belonged to them other than appearing like the ones they use elsewhere. But customers might have proof of paying for a pc with certain specs, receiving it and sending it back for repair possibly even pictures of it to show friends their new build.

Those RMAs and customer orders must excluded from company auction or any bankruptcy process as those asset not owned by company, those owned by customers with their own money paid to now-bankrupt company. Especially those RMA with personal data still inside. All of those must return to each customers without any exception.
Or at least, auction company should check those inventory and trace all details then contact to the owner for return those items back to customer hand with either paid by auction company or customer behalf.

Hate to say this, but Katz has all the markings of a spoiled brat. I'm inclined to think the apple didn't fall far from the tree and his parents' involvement in the company was a nightmare for others to have to deal with. I've worked for more than one company run by someone who got bankrolled by their parents. I always got the impression that the parents saw themselves as royalty and saw all the employees (minus their golden child) as troublemakers and thieves. Not all companies are like that, but plenty are.

This video ranks as the best video Gamers Nexus has made thus far. The quality of the video and the great way Steve narrates the story is top-notch. Weaving all the facts together and laying out a cohesive story that doesn't get bogged down into all the details is excellent work. Andrew definitely deserves props for the excellent video editing and production.
Also, I love the killer shirt design. I've already ordered one for me!

Regards auctioning of RMA items, I'm not sure how it works in the US (and IANAL) but RMA units remain the property of the owner. Providing the owner can prove ownership to the administrators/liquidators, they should get their property back. It doesn't become an asset of the failed company simply because it's on their premises. If you take your car to be serviced and the garage goes bust while it's there, you don't lose your car.

This is a fascinating video and it's crazy how far this went- but heads up, the closed captions on this video should probably be reviewed- major word changes nearly every page and strange punctuation making sentence flow confusing. It's a big deal to me that you guys go to the effort of getting your videos captioned, the commitment to accessibility and community I see in your work ethic is impressive and great to see.

Fantastic video, Steve and Crew always manage to improve by leaps and bounds and show the world of reporting and tech how it should be done. You all represent North Carolina I E I live near Asheville NC better then almost any thing else in this state. Can't wait to order some merch and thank you all for being a trustworthy group that will hopefully help keep these compaines in check.

If I had the spare cash, I would absolutely go buy a prebuilt from that new startup even tho I prefer to build my own stuff just to show some support. I don't know what it's like being shit on to quite this extent but I do know what it's like to get treated like shit at a job that you used to love. It sucks but hopefully everyone that got hurt in this gets back on their feet.

Hearing about the customer repair computers that are stuck there reminds me of a story from Houston back in 2009. A huge car dealership - Lawrence Marshall - just closed out of nowhere one day. Every single customer car that was in for repairs was locked in. IIRC, a lot of people didn't get their cars back for months, if at all.

Now this is high-end level journalism - I hope that whoever buys this shipwreck will give the repair customers a chance to get their hard drives as a bare minimum. I am fortunate enough to live in a country where the entire computer would be protected by law, and legally required to be returned to the owner before a sale/auction.
