Regardless of Northridge erroring by accidentally misreporting where the broken 4090's came from and all that ... theres another point.
GN reported in detail over multiple videos that (or at least the one line interpretation of same), it is fair to say that the problem is user error regarding proper securement of the plug, or possibly stressing the plug during subsequent cable management.
Since then it appears that Nvidia is heavily leaning specifically on this GN explanation as a way to refuse RMA's due to pretty much any power based failures of the cards. It really doesnt matter what the reason is ... warranties are being refused as caused by user error. Perhaps Northridge has a point by saying that connection issues or not ... Nvidia needs to stand up to their own product one way or another. They made the cards, they made the stock connections and wires ... people are plugging them in the same way they plug in any other cable, yet errors are happening. Are they not liable at all? There is a little talk out here that GTN may have given Nvidia an out.
To be clear, I am not 'blaming' GN on anything, just waving a little yellow flag, suggesting GN may want to do some more follow up work on this, and really consider the 'should people be able to plug this card in the same way as every other piece of equipment in a computer and expect connections to attach and work the same as they expect them to'? And maybe some clarity on Nvidias role in that?

I think we should be leaning more towards design oversight as the cause at this point when it comes to the 4090. The bigger issue, to me anyway, is that the other companies refused to RMA these cards and it was then left to cablemod to do it? (That's the impression I was left with anyway) and that..just yeah.
Still, always appreciate how well you cover these sort of things and how you do your best to really get at the truth. It's really great reporting and I wish the rest of the media had these types of standards for any topic. Good job as always.
I guess the bright side of being poor is that this will not be an issue I have to deal with.

I'm usually very willing to accept a user error failure but I maintain this is an incomplete explanation for the 12vhp connector failures. Even when something is technically user error, if you go out of your way to enable an idiot to be an idiot with arguably poorer engineering than what has been the case previously, then frankly, it's not a design oversight. It's a design error. The fact that 3x 8 pin pcie is overbuilt to handle well over 900w and 12vhp can only handle 720w, is a decent indicator as to the thought processes behind the engineering and design of the 12vhp connector.

GN is doing all the failure analysis that the manufacturers themselves should be doing.
I still think at least some of the 4090 failures are due to manufacturing defects and not user error, though. Lots of people that took pictures proving it was fully plugged in that had melted connectors. It's not unreasonable to think that a small percentage of connectors have some sort of defect, which when combined with the limited tolerances/safety margins on the standard, leads to a melting situation.

I have a complaint about cablemod... I dont really like their customer service. I ordered a set of 2 white cables for my gpu. I received black cables. When i asked about it they didnt offer to fix it. In any way. I believe its a possible issue with their cable customizer... I priced several cables and looks. No indication on email what color cable or connectors i chose. For the premium i paid i expected more. I have a complaint about configurator and response to my complaint was ridiculous.

Linus needed to step down. Trust me bro didn't work nine months ago and was evidence then that the company had outgrown Linus, a dude who's used to flying by the seat of his pants and going with his gut. Even Luke was pretty not cool with Linus's attitude in that regard, understanding full well that the companies had grown up and Linus needed to put on the big boy pants. But that's not who he is so it's time to bring in someone who is the kind of manager type person who can do that stuff well.

Cable mods cables destroyed my motherboard and SSD. They refused to help other than to send new cables. Luckily Microcenter took the motherboard in and my 7950x3d survived, but I am out a 4tb SSD... Never using their garbage again and the replacement cables are still in their box unopened(which took 6 weeks to arrive, I'm surprised they came at all). I can't risk using them when they refuse to take responsibility for their mistakes.

I think Nvidia used only one power connector because at the time the 4090 was released parts were still hard to find. The 3090 had 2 connectors so why the 4090 have only 1? If you are nvidia and you have a box of 2000 connectors you can either make 2000 cards with 1 connector or 1000 cards with 2 connectors. It won t hurt nvidia since very few connectors will burn and even the few that do burn will not contact nvidia.

I am a Mechanic (35+ years now), and I deal with all types of connectors. Some better than others. I can't even count the amount of times where a connector feels like it's locked in, but just doesn't quite fully seat, and due to vibration it will back out. This can cause all sorts of issues, especially in modern vehicles, where they are very voltage/amperage sensitive. I know it's not exactly the same, but it is 12VDC!

Removed my prior comment because I jumped the gun. However, the issue remains and the onus is on the company to rectify.
A high end card could fail any any moment, and those who have high end and unique versions may not have warranty coverage and are forced to repair.
I have a white 4090 strix and I honestly am concerned because they may no longer be available where I am (straya).
Decent coverage non the less

My galahad 360 AIO died 2 years after purchasing it. Lian li was excellent with their customer support and expressed me a new one with only screenshots of system temperatures to support my claim. Their support made it pretty clear with the way the communicated and took action that they were there to fix an issue, not try to weasel out of a warranty claim. I would definitely recommend them based on my rma experience.

I bailed from Linus Tech Tips when their video titles became clickbait junk that didn't even reference the product they were reviewing, around 2020. They did, later, address that, and start labelling videos properly again... for a few months, then it changed back. I gave up. Linus also comes across as smug. I don't like him. Glad he's going from the public side of things.

Hopefully, now that Linus will have more free time, it will result with more collabs between LTT and GN. Would be cool to see some joint projects, especially in the creator warehouse. LTT may have more tools and equipment, bit GN have more experience testing and troubleshooting stuff, so it seems like a good idea to combine those forces for the betterment of normal customers.

Meh, we're mostly here because we find Linus REALLY annoying. He went along for many years just flaunting his wealth and tech in times where people were really struggling financially or suffering from shortages. I just found him really immature and irritating, like the evil, bragging, mirror version of Jayz2cents. He lost all vision 9f being humble, and me as a viewer!

I understand Linus handing off the business side. But I feel he just creates more problems by staying on in a vision role while also being the owner. Will he just say do this or will he take a no from the new CEO? Will other employees that be told no by the CEO go to Linus and ask him to intervene? I can already see the CEO stepping down next year.
