What's with this white hardware trend? It reminds me of getting stuffed into the MRI machines at the spinal unit, because they have a similar look. Yuck. White looks so medical that I'd wonder if I have to wear a mask near it. Bring back the beige! Just joking. Black does it for me. Red RGB, so it looks like a dungeon in the Oblivion plane.
P.S. I just bought a Razer Black Widow keyboard. I really like the feel, but I should have got the quiet version. Clickety click. What a racket (I type hard like I am tapping Eddie Van Halen's Eruption licks on my guitars). I remember when I could just about get a Geforce 2 for what this keyboard cost. Matching mouse was pricy too, but good. The MMO one for playing ESO. Good for Fallout 4 too.
Now I have several programs controlling my RGB stuff. What a pain in the butt. I might get a controller, but wonder if it will work on everything, plus I am Pacman generation, so getting oldish. I can't really be effed messing with computers as much as I used to. Fiddly stuff like M2 retainer screws really suck as you get older, so a one minute job ends up taking ages. No wonder so many of the Boomers go all technophobe.

I like how Corsair is implementing this, but this NEEDS to be standardized... NOT proprietary. And while they've taken care of my least complaint, spaghetti monster levels of wires, but we have yet to see if they can make an RGB software that doesn't suck. I know Signal and Open RGB exist... but they have their own issues. Also, I had a lot of hardware problems the last time I tried Corsair's RGB fans... so, I'm a bit hesitant to try them again for that issue alone.
I think it's also worth noting that the Mini-Fit Jr. standard that the PEG connector uses, on a dual row 6-pin OR 8-pin, is rated for 7 amps with 20ga wire, 8.5 amps with 18ga wire and 10 amps with 16ga wire... per 12v terminal. So, if they're using the standard three 12v terminals in a PEG connector, even on crappy 20ga wire, you could get up to just over 250 watts before you're overloading the connector. Still... best to not exceed the 80% rule. The whole 75/150 watt spec is a PCI Sig spec that's related to sensing and has nothing to do with the actual load rating of the Mini-Fit Jr. standard. The standard pre-dates GPU's even needing dedicated power.

Why bother keeping any of it propietary?
Why not just leave the board connectors on an open COM port and accessible to Arduino or Circuit Python or something similar?
If they all used some variation of an already existing open source toolchain they'd be selling a lot more RGBvomit. Don't tell me because security concerns because closed software still has the same drawback, additionally modern CPUs contain a security engine of some sort on chip (such as TPM on SoC). Certs can be generated locally for every machine whether Windos or Linux.
This would also standardize the multi port adapters they ship, which can also contain a secure microcontroller- that even with limited license, would still work better as an open source solution.

These companies force me not to purchase their products. For example, I already know iCue doesn't work with the rest of my RGB, so as a result I don't own any Corsair RGB products.
Now, if they designed them to work on an open standard then I might purchase some of their products. I know there are some generic RGB control software but so far it hasn't worked out for me.
Beause of this I have not purchased any brand-name RGB parts for my new open loop. No Corsair or cooler master or any other echosystem RGB. That's money directly out of the pockets of these companies because they refuse to get together and create a standard everyone's equipment will work with.
We need IEEE to create a standard.
Funny how Lian Li made fans that clip together and now everyone is copying them. I wonder if Lian Li gets a kickback. They should have patented the design.

That Corsair Hybrid GPU cooler is super interesting! I love the idea of something you can carry over from GPU to GPU. I also wanted to say I absolutely HATE how freaking bloated every damn RGB software is. Why the hell can it not JUST be super efficient snappy just to change the RGB coloring? All the ones I've used have so much extra BS in it, even freaking stats about everything from my CPU, GPU, HDD, everything. I just freaking want it to be simple as hell to change the colors. And now even within the same company, such as Corsair with iCue my K55 keyboard and my RAM don't work together. I have to use an older version for my K55 to work properly and a newer version for my RAM to show up but then my Keyboard goes into an endless driver off and on loop where I can't even force an update or anything.

I love GN overall but....I don't need to overclock (anything that will be voided) or over clock for the glam. Good god! STOP!

I for one will not buy propriatary systems. I'm not anti RGB and nice looking systems, my PC's are all open loop water cooled, but I will not buy into a system that is designed to lock me into a company. I want a standard developed for linkable fans and more fans with either reversable blades or just reverse versions of the fans. There is nothing worse than spending thousands on a system and ending up looking at the ugly sticker on the back of a fan. In the past companies got together to develop standards all the time. VHS, DVD, USB etc etc, we wouldn't have any of it without collaboration. These days they seem far to protectionate and unwilling to think of the bigger picture. It just means that there are some companies who I will never spend money on.

Using iQue is something I will always avoid like the plauge! I bought a 10 programmable button Corsair mouse (macros too apparently) and only the standard 3 buttons out of the box, so I had to download iQue, to use a mouse, which hijacked ALL of my fans and RGB. My RGB froze and my fans (including the 3 on my brand new 3080) got stuck to 50% speed. A mouse shouldn't REQUIRE a multiple GB download, or mess with any other hardware (especially fans). Totally unacceptable. Do they really expect me to ditch my whole fan and RGB setup just to use their crappy mouse? Not gonna happen, I don't trust fan control programs to begin with, so I run them through the BIOS.

I swore off Corsair products entirely after a simple iCue update nuked my system. Killed my VGA and soundcard drivers, and no amount of reinstallation, driver cleaning, or what have you, would fix it. The fix was to roll back Windows to a restore point prior to installing the update. Well, or a complete reinstall. That was it for me. Got rid of keyboard, mouse, and AIO. Cleared up like 2 gigs of hard drive space by removing iCue entirely. Which is another ridiculous thing about their software. Kinda chaps my ass that their hardware always seems pretty solid, but the software is complete trash that might cripple your PC anytime it updates.

Proprietary connectors were the first thing that bothered me when I saw the Lian Li video, sure it's cool what they're trying to do, although I have no need for an lcd screen inside a PC or on a fan. What manufacturers could do is sit down and present their current designs and what they have planned. Take the connector that has the most pins and add 2-4 reduntant ones so you don't need to come up with a new connector a year later and make a design, and in case USB-C meets the spec they could just use that.Ideally they would use the same API that talks to the pins, but they could have their own software on what they want to do.

Gamers Nexus Steve, 3:09 I'd put my money on bearing fatigue over time rather than material expansion over time to cause fan rubbing. I've rebuilt more pumps than I can remember, all types, a lot of various materials, fans are basically air pumps, air is fluid, you get where I'm going. I'd also bet a big chunk of fan cost is the bearing itself. My question, wouldn't it be easier to save money on the manufacturing cost for cheap fans by using cheaper bearings rather than some sort of time based expanding polymer (I did chuckle, sorry it's the chemistry background). Food for thought!

I love my Corsair LL120 fans setup but the software is absolutely awful it's lag mess and uses far too much space for what it actually does. What Corsair did when V4 came out and not support older hardware was a slap in the face of it's consumers loyal ones too.
They need to go to one connector all of them just one fan connector standard. But the software really needs to be sorted out less bloated for space usage and refine it more

The amount of programs I need to run in the background to make sure my fans and rgb works is ridiculous and I would love something thats capable of communicating with all of them as well as not needing to be ran all the time. If I make a change that change should be saved and I could close out the software without reverting/turning off the settings

I'm looking forward to these new rgb case fans. The cable clutter will be minimized and I really like icue!! I've never had any problems with their software. The only problem I run into is I also like gigabyte aorus products. My motherboard is aorus and the GCC software for gigabyte is trash. It tries to take control of my ram rgb, which is corsair, and cuts it off from icue. The rgb will just go to a static color and I can't do anything with my ram wether I try through icu or GCC.

These proprietary idiot cables always fail to consider use-cases that are even slightly outside the most obvious common use-case. I often like to put the frontmost fan on the top of the case as an intake, as it is before the CPU heatsink, and then the fans behind it to be exhaust. Looks like based on the connection being clearly off-center that the use-case would not work with their Magnificient Proprietary Fan Interconnect 2000
