Intel is a big holder of intellectual property and a world leader in semiconductor technology. As a person from India I wish Intel the best. Intel is an evil corporation or has been in the past but it's influence and space in the national security and global world security cannot be understated. We do not want authoritarian governments or unstable governments like Taiwan to have the world's biggest economy by the throat in semiconductor production and to influence the productivity of Intel. It would harm the industry in the long run and potentially lead to proliferation of semiconductor technology to third party state and non state actors. This would not help anyone. Taiwan's TSMC reneging contractual or oral obligations with a CEO of another coprporation based in the US due to it's supposed weakened state and new dependence on TSMC for fabrication should worry people in the US. It is not a good development and shows how little they value free speech in Taiwan and how developing capacity in Europe, Asia, and most importantly USA is important. Intel is working towards this with their sub 2 nanometre process. Time will tell but the reporting here is immoderate, TSMC's bad behaviour should not be celebrated.

There are a lot of stories about Concord, but overall $400mil is widely accepted number
funny thing is that it varies up to $600mil, since supposedly Sony was working with Firewalk since 2019 or so, overall poured $400mil into the game and even bought studio for additional $200mil, hence $600mil figure appears, so overall $400 is accepted as mostly a fact
about average cost of 8 years of development of big studio, it's around $200mil, which would apply to DA veilguard, hence their sales of 500k copies sum up to $35mil of revenue, which excludes steam margins etc.also had 30k returns and gamestop is paying only $14 for $70 game 2 weeks after release
and people said to not use Baldur's Gate 3 as a benchmark since they spent 8 years to develop the game.... DAV and Concord took that much time, next would be small studio making dustborn since 2016 election, but it's smaller studio, so we can leave them be in this argument

It's a shame that Upgrading - in Socket, is still causing issues. I'm glad you caught it and have made people aware!
I had a similar issue when I upgraded from a 5600x to a 5800x3D... I raised the issues with the bios, at the time, with the Board vendor (Gigabyte B550 AORUS ELITE V2)... but hearing that similar, in-socket, chip upgrades are still causing issues on zen 5 is disappointing...
Thank you for being so open and careful with your bench data! Keep up the great work! :)
P.S I'd love it if you would include Factorio in your bench suite going forwards! :)

What I like about the 9800X3D news is that it proves that there is still genuine demand for quality hardware releases. It's not just an economically cool climate that appears to be correlated with a lot of PC enthusiasts piling on complaints, stemming from poor professional reviews.
The reason this is important is that it signals to the chipmakers that people are truly willing to spend money on the makers' products if the marketing is honest, the performance uptick compared to the prior generation is meaningful, and the price is reasonable.

Hey if you're running factorio, its important to consider what actually impacts performance in-game and not in a benchmark. Generally a lot of benchmarks test small factories and see how fast they can run with no limitations, but this doesnt really translate for performance on large megabase factories and thats what most players are worried about when getting a computer for factorio, not how it runs a starter factory. I'd recommend you look into getting a large save file that already runs under 60 ups/fps on a mid-range computer and test that.

31:03 about pat saying hurtful things to TSMC regarding stability, damn Pat, that's something a Chinese propagandist would say. Also, great job burning your own bridge to TSMC. Be thankful they still didn't ban you for your statement (in which the thin skinned people in West Taiwan probably will if you talk smack to them). Then again, I'm impressed how they can deliver a powerful message to the Intel CEO without banning his company, and making profit with your enemies

The guys i work with for the CPUs and mobos are the biggest distributor in our region. They said that in the 4 days they have the 9800X3D on pre-order, there are already more than 11k individual pre-orders. To quote the owner in the 33 years i've been in this business, i've never seen any piece of hardware exploding on the market like that CPU. These are all individual orders and don't include the bulk purchases made by retailers for bulks of 100 and 1000.

There were a few points where you stated that you stay out of politics. I'd actually find it really useful for experts in industries that people care about to give some honest analysis of how proposed policies might affect prices, availability, work, etc within their industry.
It doesn't need to be an endorsement or anything - but helping people connect abstract policies with concrete impacts on their life would raise the bar on discussion quite a bit.

I really hate that people can buy up something newly released and resell it. Really should be a law against that. Something like when a new item releases, 1 item per customer for the first month of release. Only way youd get around this is by actively breaking the law [spoofing IPs n such].
Its just BS that A, i have to wait to do my build and B, theres nothing garunteeing that by the time I get my taxes, that this will be available at 480$..

gamersnexus My main game where my CPU is never powerful enough is Timberborn. Could you do something with that game With Zen1 I could have 150 beavers. With Zen2 I could have 250 beavers. With 13K600 I could have 350 beavers. Above those numbers the game feels sluggish. The FPS might say it runs at 88FPS but the simulation fluctuates to sometimes 8FPS.
I wonder what a 9800X3D would do in terms of beavers at high simulation speed.

Microcenter in St. David's PA (just outside of Philly) has 9800X3D in stock as of yesterday. I reserved one at launch and picked it up this weekend. They said the initial stock was instantly sold out on Thursday, but since then they have received more every day. If you're anywhere near a Microcenter that's probably your best bet. Just watch their website, you can reserve one there and pick it up in store within 4 days.

Steve (and Team) cuz!!! I dunno what to say the level that you've elevated your technical analysis to is, next level, S Tier, it's Godlike!!!
Now we are getting post-analysis reports that are more detailed, accurate and actionable than 90% of initial analysis from the competition ....... Feel like am in a PC hardware version of Waynes World, where the only obvious answer is WE ARE NOT WORTHY!!!!!
Thanks guys

I want to buy 9 9950 X3D for escape from Tarkov.
I have i9 12900k with 32bg DDR5-4800 and
4070ti
The poorly programmed unity game from 2017 tarkov is unlike many tests I see. So it’s extremely hard to know if Tarkov would benefit that much.
Escape from Tarkov showed a massive improvement when over clocking ram to 5000 I have read a lot of post about CPU cache being very important for Tarkov.

I don't think we're looking at the tariff situation from the proper angle. The incoming administration wants to put more money in people's pockets, through lower taxes, better trade deals, greatly reduced inflation, and an overall prosperous economy. Example right now: $350 CPU, but $8/gallon gas, $6/dozen eggs... The future: $370 CPU, $2/gallon gas, $1/dozen eggs, substantially lower taxes, interest rates...

I'm going to be mildly political and say, the CHIPS Act started with Trump. I very specifically remember because I suggested getting more silicon production happening here to him on Twitter, and when he said he was doing it, I reacted like oh shit, he's doing it. I also specifically remember Biden trying to take credit for it while talking shit about Trump, like eh eh eh, you continued the good idea, stay humble.

I got my 9800X3D from local Czech retailer Smarty CZ on 9th November. It costed me 13990 CZK / 550 EUR and now this same retailer expects new 9800X3D shipments in December
However this CPU is rocket. It literally consumes nothing in both games and CPU bound programs when tamed with curve optimiser and it is beast in all train simulators which I have including Garry's mod Metrostroi mod (metro simulator).

Wait until those lawyers find out the 12th gen intel chips have issues with Kernel Security (24h2 changes - so microsoft technically at fault) & Virtualization (if you disable RIP performance & hello more issues). Lawyers love Easy blood. - I'm willing to pull a gamestop for Intel ONLY when they increase Performance cores & decrease Eff Cores & increase cpu Cache.

If Shadow of the Tomb Raider is still on the benchmark list, please throw it of. I just spent an hour in the settings menu to find out that the physics are bound to the FPS. 30 FPS is perffect, 60 FPS is playable, everything after that can create problems with physics objects like Ropes & Puzzles. The game is out for years and it was never fixed.

Man, It released. Friday it was out of stock, I was like darn that's too bad. Check Saturday morning for news on it on the chip. Seen microcenter had some in stock at 940am. Clicked buy, reserved, picked it up same day at 11AM. It was out of stock by noon
I'll keep it boxed until 9950x3D release and sell the 9800 if I like the price vs FPS.

If they want their Ryzen 9 X3D CPU to be good they better have equal amount of cache shared amount each 8 cores. Before on the Ryzen 9 zen4 X3D CPUs they let only 8 cores hog all the 3D cache and left the other 8 to starve/share the amount of cache they were given. They could make it the best CPU in the world if they give it equal amounts cache
