High-End AMD: Sapphire RX 6700 XT Nitro+ Tear-Down

We're taking apart Sapphire's RX 6700 XT Nitro+ in this review, following-up our RX 6700 XT reference disassembly. The Nitro model is well-built, but teeters close to higher-end cards in price. Our disassembly of the Sapphire RX 6700 XT Nitro+ closely analyzes the build quality, repairability of the card (excellent, by the way), the PCB choices, fan and cooler choices, and compares interesting thermal paste characteristic similarities against the reference model. The Sapphire card is built well, but its pricing -- as an unfortunate side effect -- will position it close enough to RTX 3070 or RX 6800 territory that it starts to become worth considering low-end cards in the next tier up. There's something to be said for a well-built card at a lower tier, though, and we'll explore that argument today. Jenda: Steve, it may be fair to state that NVIDIA cards don't really meet their MSRPs as history showed us, while AMD card seems to be much closer to that. I know the value proposition is kinda hard to judge right now, we'll have to see how prices settle, but I still think that the average GeForce price will continue to creep much higher over MSRP than Randeons'.

Regarding the thermal pad heights; my experience with Sapphire support is that they will provide information about their thermal pads they use. I recently took apart my R9 290 Tri-X OC (2015) to replace a broken fan (no pin-slot type, unfortunately) and redo thermal interfaces, and checked online which thermal pads to use. According to multiple online forums / communities, EKWB's manual had the right numbers. However, the depicted information raised my suspicion, as during my visual inspection the pads looked to be of different heights than indicated. After contacting Sapphire support, they provided me with the actual BOM (Bill Of Materials) of the card. Good thing I did, because this listed the use of different heights in comparison to the EKWB manual.
Also, video idea in relation to this ridiculous video card market we are in now: card maintenance and performance / lifetime enhancement.
- When you should do it (how old is the card, environmental influences, usage conditions etc.)
- Why you should do it (natural degradation, poor stock material use etc.)
- What you should do (e.g. dust removal, reapplying thermal paste, which to use, reapplying thermal pads, pads performance, fan replacement, what to look out for, overclock or not in relation to thermals and stress etc.)
- How you should do it (tutorial, do's and dont's, contacting the manufacturer or not, where to buy third-party solutions)

PLZ rreview a TON of partner models. Preferable the lower end parts(cheaper models), since its more important than ever to find (a good deal), and one of the ways to do that is if theres some lower bracket/price designs, that are good(enogh). vrm/cooling whise.
I would like to see more reviews of, Ventus series/ Eagle/gaming series/Dual OC(asus) series + low end types of RX series from XFX(Speedster) and/or Sapphire/powercooler with the cheaper models of their Product stacks.
Preferable RTX3060/3060TI and RX6700XT cards, since those are typical the new midrangers, and where most people may be able to eventually afford the cards. (these are the GTX1060/RTX2060/RX480/RX580 replacement cards afterall).

Taking an entire month off for Lunar New Year is extremely backwards for modern society. Hell, my own household only celebrated for a week and even then we still went to work but if we could then we took the first day of the New Year off and nothing more. This is why we need to reduce our reliance upon China and other East Asian territories as this kind of nonsense has made things worse. Manufacturing components locally wouldn't have that high of a mark up in prices as we are seeing now so people arguing against US based fabs or European based fabs need to shut up.

I know yall likely won't see this but some of us would really enjoy watching some partner model reviews. Maybe not like 30 skus but the ones you find the most interesting at x price point (I know thats hard now probably), or ones that stood out as really poor or something. I agree it's kind of boring when its just individual review spam videos but the highlighted ones should be entertaining enough. I just think people are bored of it because maybe the cards aren't buyable? Love the content steve, wondering if you still rock an fx8350 for your home rig? Cheers.

i got RX 6800 Nitro+ for 779 Euros months ago. (1. week of january) Its now 1299 Euros and 6700 Nitro+ goes for 949 Euros, SO NOT COMPLAINING, kinda kicking my self tho for canceling 749 Euro RTX 3080 TUF OC, as i would have gotten one like 1,5 weeks after my cancellation, way back last year. Anyways, cant wait till the market settles down so i can upgade kids computers with something current, for DECENT price.

From the title I knew you would be happy to see the card despite how meh 6700XT is. Cards from Sapphire never disappoints, those guys know what they're doing and here in Indonesia, Sapphire page sometimes filled with memes, in a good way, while also stays professional when a serious issues pops out, unlike that flamethrower manufacturing brand

Yes please Steve. In fact, I love watching these 3rd party breakdowns and tests. Back when you used to do those stuff and people werent interested, I was only a child, maybe most of us who love these kind of reviews were children? Who knows right? Anyway, Im looking to buy the Sapphire Nitro+ 6900XT, have any words on it?

I think a price to performance comparison of the cheapest versus the most expensive partner model would be cool. I do want to see partner model reviews but maybe not as many because I get sick of them when it s a difference of 1 degree.
Some of these partner models are really expensive and they deserve to be roasted.

It would be interesting to do a cost analysis for each part of the card .... As I'm watching this tear down it looks that it doesn't cost much more than 150-200 to produce each one of these making the 6700X essentially a 250 retail card (accounting for shipping & other production costs plus Sapphire's gain margins)....
