Cord Cutting the EASY Way What did you base your Internet only average cost on
HughesNet does have a plan for $70/month, but you only get 20GB of anytime use. Once you burn through your allotment your internet speed slows down to 1 to 3 MB/s. I have had that before and buffing can and does occur. Nothing like watching a movie and it gets very suspenseful and then the picture freezes and you have to wait until enough data is buffered before playback can continue and then the cycle repeats.
Since an hour of video streaming in standard definition (720p) needs around 1 GB of data you could watch 20 hours before the watch-buffering cycle begins, not fun at all.
If there are any truly unlimited satellite plans please share that, but I a have been looking and have only found StarLink and that is by invite only and only in certain areas. The StarLlink waiting list once you get invited to the wait list costs $500 for equipment then $99/month and you will wait up to 6 months.\r\n

Very good info. But cord cutting isn't trading one paid service for 2 or 3 more (even if they're cheaper).
True cord cutting requires no paid services at all, including internet. OTA broadcasts, true FTA satellite, and good ole plastic media are genuine cord cutting.
I'm not being critical of streaming services... just pointing out the correct terminology. Cord cutting does not include paid services. If it did, what would be the point

I have a cable bundle (mid-premium cable tv mostly for HBO, internet, security system and phone). The phone is needed because I live in area with spotty mobile service. We watch netflix and amzn prime..etc. But, also big sports fans and some watch ABC/CBS/NBC... I know there are better options for phone/internet. And of course something like Ring for security. But can we cut the cord if we want sports/abc/nbc/cbs

I’ve said this before so I’ll say it again, you cannot count Internet in your TV cost anymore than you can electricity because internet has become a basic utility because so many things that we do require internet. However even if you wind up spending $70 or $80 on streaming services you are still saving almost $80 off of that $217 average which is nothing to sneeze at.

If I donate money to Locast on a monthly basis, will they slow down on asking for a donation about every 3 to 4 minutes Everytime that I have attempted to watch Locast I was bombarded with the annoying suggestions to donate money and then my tv screen is kicked back into the guide page. Any suggestions None of the other free apps kick back into the guide page.

So in the process of cutting and could use some advice. For a basic ranch house maybe 1200 square feet with a basement, one TV upstairs one downstairs, just a married couple in the house so no more than two tvs and/or two phones going at once, and going with fios, would you recommend an internet of 200, 300, 500 mbps or the gig

Great video. For Australians, Roku is only available from Telstra (Telstra TV) and for something similar to Amazon's devices, get a Vodafone TV it's about $70 for a 4K android tv box and is the best value by far here. Agree that netflix and Amazon prime video are must haves

I was a bit surprised Locast was not mentioned for local live streaming. It is simple, free (with a $5 per month donation removed nag screens) and completely solved live TV viewing (no DVR of course) for me. It is not in all markets so that is the downside.

So I have Amazon Prime but I almost NEVER use it. Everything I want to watch even old John Wayne movies COST EXTRA! I have yet to watch anything I didn't pay for on Amazon Prime. Not to mention they charge more for HD. If not everything is SD and that sucks.

I’ve had this roku device for nearly a year and still haven’t set up. Lost all original paperwork, so I’m at basic baby steps just to set up roku to tv. All is plugged in correct and the roku screen says not connected. WHAAAAAT.

Bro I want to thank you, I've been following you for about 6 7 months now and 3 months ago I cut the cord thanks to you, I was going to go with Hulu but I end up going to Xfinity streaming and I haven't regretted not one bit

Ok, I will be the dummy and ask this question. 5mbps per screen Is that 5mbps up or down I am assuming this means down and therefore my 100mbps down and 10mbps up service is more than adequate. Please educate the old guy.

Great video. I am already aware of pretty much everything you discuss, but I'm in the middle of moving and resetting up my home network and media center and needed something to watch during my lunch. Cheers!

I don't cut the cord because my wifi isn't always reliable and it's nice to have other options to enjoy watching movies and tv shows and because I live on the other side of the world where Satellite TV is much cheaper

If you want a decent streaming device I recommend the Xiaomi Mi Box S. It has a lot of support for apps and it doesn’t have advertising unlike amazon and roku. It’s also pretty cheap at $50 (at Walmart)

Nice information, it is very useful to cut down your cable bill, I use roku streaming stick and have PLUTO, peacock and tubitv, using 300 megabits per second, paying $45 per internet service.

Anyone ever mention to you that you look like LIam from Bold & Beautiful. An yes I came in here for help to cut cable cord. (sorry abourt my typing si mistakes. My backspace key wont work.)

Locast should also be mentioned for people who want live local TV stations and who don't want to fool with an antenna or pay for an expensive cable replacement streaming service.
reply

Forget the antenna. Get PlayOn Desktop. The best way to get local TV shows you like. It can also record from any major services you pay for. It’s amazing.
