The mobile version of minimize, is a focus change, but it still functionally minimizes the app. Mobile also has an explicit close. Seeing as this is a desktop OS, yes you would still expect a minimize. Visually there is no representation here of how you would hide a foreground window without just closing it. I haven't installed Elementary yet, but I'd imagine there is a way to functionally minimize either through the dock icon or keyboard shortcut. I very much expect that the text editor is indeed being closed, its just caching unsaved files to disk, because Notepad++ does this on Windows even. If nothing was ever closing then its always in and consuming memory or paged to swap, where that might be a spinning disk on desktop. Mobile, while having limited RAM, has the advantage of always being able to assume flash storage exists.

The App Center supports flatpak, though by default there are no remotes added. You have to click installation link on at least one package in flathub, get it installed by sideload and then all other packages from this remote will become searcheable and installable from App Center. By the way, Telegram clients are open-source, that's why it's available in Ubuntu repos and by extension in elementary App Center. Nonetheless Telegram server side is closed probably to prevent proliferation of cloned Telegram networks and communication chaos, since Telegram is a cloud messaging service.

Hello, I just learned about this Elementary OS. This video introduces more info. Thanks. Yes, we need an OS for low-tech people. Also that many have used Windows and get used to that way. Several questions I have (so that more windows users will go for this OS): Can I dual boot Windows 10 and this OS? If I use this OS, how do I run some Windows applications on this OS? Can I use Wine to run windows apps? if yes, how do I install Wine? When there is a new release, how do I do the update? ... Overall, I like what I see here, and I will give it a shot.

I loved it but too many bugs. I had a problem starting bluej and emacs. The top panel(wingpanel ) occasionally disappears usually after boot. Their repositories contain lesser packages. U need to add a ppa for most apps u wanna install including essentials like elementary tweaks. Pantheon mail did not work for my google account. No full dark theme(u can install adwaita dark if u wanna). It is buggy sometimes. But I love the workspace switching mechanism. I m ready to switch back to it if they fix these things

I love the speed, simplicity and aesthetic feel this distro offers. Whether you are a developer or a simple user it's one of the best pick you can get. Since its based on ubuntu/debian all dev, hack or creativity tools can be installed separately. Honestly I never thought I would switch from Manjaro with pure deepin(2 yrs) but here I am. Also use mailspring for email client it's best looking functional email client.

Nobody uses minimize anymore. I minimize stuff everyday. Ya, some apps will take you back. I don't like that, very much. Like your editor example ... hate that. If I close an editor, I want it to ask if I want to save the open changed document(s). I'm old and gotten use to that. Otherwise, you might forget and think you saved. Sometimes it's cool an app will stay where you left it. Everything is situation I guess.

I have been using only Linux for 9 years, many years in Ubuntu, wich I liked a lot, until they drop Unity. Then I tried several distros, some of them very good (Mint, Solus, MX...) but always felt the lack of something.... When I installed Elementary, I felt that I have found the distro I was looking for: stable, beautiful and with some magic...

I love the UI I wish it was more portable. With Canonical taking Ubuntu in the direction Redhat went, I switch from ubuntu bases to arch, and couldn't be happier. The community is fabulous, the how-tos are very detailed. I just cant get Pantheon to be stable on Arch :(

Would be nice if you could demo any of the app that come with it. How can we tell how good the Elementary email, music, video, photo, etc. apps are. Maybe have a demo vhd that has media on it to attach to various VMs.
Otherwise, great review.
