ATHLEAN-X Interview - Compare to P90X Ramone: Dude. You say that it is a waste of time to count calories and ratio your macronutrients. How are you supposed to grow muscle when as you grow muscle your body 'requires' more calories in order for it to grow! I don't agree with 'increase your calories by 500 each week'; that yeah, is BS--i'd say more like 200/wk. But you need to eat more than you burn to grow muscle! Where would the extra energy come from for your body to actually build those muscles? I counted macronutrients for years and years and it worked well for me! and I am a 5'7 ectomorph hardgainer! Was it difficult to get into? Yes! But overtime, once you learn how many protein and carbs are in most foods it gets very easy! The most difficult part of that is when your a guest at someone's place and somebody forces you to eat crappy foods! Eg. -No thanks I don't want it- Re: -Yes you do; you're eating this crap desert filled with 2 cups of sugar that I slaved just to you to eat and feel crappy about-.
And you don't believe in ratio'ing your macronutrients? Are you serious! Maybe i'm responding to the wrong video; but I remember you saying that it is a waste of time.

Love athlean x and not plugging one company against the other. but have to correct you on P90 x. it actually has a ton of rest and recovery and it-s 60-90 min because the first 15-20 min before and after is strictly warm up and stretching the actual workout is prob only 30 -40 min. Tons of yoga, stretching, foam rolling mobility and diff workouts every week. not the same chest workout each day! Just had to correct this for all watching. just 2 diff concepts one is following along to see form and the exercise the other is more independent watch the video then go and do on your own at the gym! Depends on what works for you best. But definitely Either way it-s up to YOU to put the work in and follow your nutrition for a lifetime not just 90 days! Thanks again for the info!

I started P90x in. 2009 or 2010 and I still do it to this day, it's a great program and it pushed me way past my limits and now when I do those workouts I can stack three upper body workouts in 3 hours, admittedly I'm pretty burnt out after that but that's how I like to train. I think people who are at the extreme level need to realize that all these workouts are built for the average Joe. Beyond the average Joe are Olympians (special forces, ultra marathoners, etc) and to train to that level, it should take you a week to recover NOT just a good night's sleep.
I want to try athlene x 2 xtreme I think it's called and see if I it's good because when I get bored of p90x it would be nice to switch to another very good program and go back and forth.

I started with P90X and moved on to a compound steady workout implementing Jeff's ideas. Before that though, I did do P90X, but instead of doing a full workout a day, I would cut it in half in order to add more weight and not burn as much calories, as I getting bigger was my main goal. I still do those workouts now. At the end of the day, P90X is a great workout guide that introduces newbies to an array of free weight exercises and help prepare you for the heavier compound exercises. It's a great idea to integrate both compound and free weight exercises into a workout program.

I never did p90x2 or 3, I just did the original p90x and I personally prefer the Athlean-x videos. P90x is not doubt helpful but Athlean-x has a more realistic approach where beginners can slowly get into it without a serious fear of injury. Also p90x just isn't realistic, 90 minutes towards yoga and other work outs that last over an hour when you factor in the abs stuff, that's just too much for people who are busy. In particular I like the Athlean x abs videos and I find they are a lot more fun and since they have a few good videos, you can mix things up to keep it fresh.

I've done both programs and there are pros and cons to both, depending on your preferences and fitness goals. P90X helped me get in shape with it's high intensity and cardio. It's good for home fitness with only weights and a pull up bar needed. One of the downsides to P90X, in my opinion, is it's high impact on the knees and back.
AthleanX requires a gym so that can be a con for some. A couple of pros would be for its online access (no DVD needed, less impact on knees and back, variety and use of bands. Which program you choose depends on you and your goals.

Is it possible to do the Athlean programs without a barbell?
I ask because I live in a big city and do have a gym membership, but the hours that it's open as well as dealing with when I have to be at work don't mesh well. And thanks to how crowded it gets, basically there's no way I can do a 30 minute workout without having to wait for other people to finish their sets for several minutes.
My apartment's gym is pretty nice and doesn't get too crowded, BUT it just has dumbbells as opposed to any barbells. Thoughts from anyone who's done the program?

Spot on and direct! This is not new folks, this is a program started in the 60's by Arthur Jones who trained Casey Viator the youngest Mr America at the age of 19! The program is called
- high intensity training- or HIT more information can be found by Ellington Darden in his book
-The new High Intensity training- with workout plans, meals, nutrition and rest. Thank you Jeff for keeping this alive and well, best out there! Jeff has taken this to a higher level and somehow improved this already amazing technique

Jeff, I-m Daniel from Toronto. In 2014 I weighed 320 LBS and lost my wife 18 months later. I had two ulcer operations and I wore a catheter for a year and a half. I forgot about myself taking care of my wife. I stayed on the couch for two years to heal and today I weighed 145 LBS and at 56 years old I am working out and in the best shape of my life. Sylvester Stallone was my influence and today so are you Jeff. My girlfriend thanks you.

He knows a lot. but is still selling a product. There is no one size fits all for every human being. lol. it's not like he is sitting down with every individual, and devising a plan specifically, for them. P90x or insanity may be perfect for another persons plans, goals or mindset. Some people dont need choices, they need direction. Whatever motivates you, to push that bar, do that push up, curl that shit. lol.
