Train like an athlete. workout like Bruce Lee here! Perhaps nobody symbolizes the word athlete more than Bruce Lee. With his legendary workout routines and feats of strength, Bruce Lee has become an inspirational workout icon and someone we all can learn how to workout from. In this video, I'm going to cover the 5 main principles of Bruce Lee's workout and diet routine as well as show you some of his favorite exercises. The first principle of Bruce Lee workouts was using muscle tension to your advantage. With total body tension, Lee was able to create more core and abs stability which allowed him to be more powerful from head to toe. Perhaps his most amazing display of this was his fingertip pushups (shown in this video. Next, the iso tension principle was one he incorporated after completing a set of an exercise. For example, following his finger tip pushups, Bruce Lee would attempt to contract all of the muscles involved in that exercise in order to extend the time under tension and develop mind muscle control. The ideal time to use this is for 10 seconds after completing a set, and it's exactly where he included this in his weightlifting routine. Third, Lee believed that you should never attempt to lift a weight that you couldn't actually lift with your own muscles. Momentum is not the fastest way to building more ripped muscle. He proved this with his barbell curl and launch exercise where he was able to show off his strength and control in his workout routine. Next, we can't talk about a Bruce Lee workout without mentioning his ab workout. Known for his dragon flag exercise, Bruce Lee used this demanding core exercise to carve out ripped six pack abs. If you want your own set of Bruce Lee six pack abs though, you're going to have to start training your core more often. daily. I'll show you how to build up to the dragon flag even if you aren't able to hold one right now. Finally, no Bruce Lee workout video is complete without addressing what he felt was one of the most important workout principles. recovery. He believed that you grew away from the gym and not in it. With attention to a good diet, proper sleep, protein supplementation and rest days. Bruce Lee was able to accelerate his muscle growth and stay ripped year round. If you want to start training like the ultimate athlete, then you should head to and get the workout program being used by today's top professional athletes (and guys that want to look and move like them)

I'm curious, with the launch curl: You say that Bruce Lee said that you should be comfortable with the weight, effectively, regardless of what you do with it. The -launch curl-, on the other hand, is a specific movement that one could train and become proficient at. Based on your description of what he was saying, you should be able to sweep the bar through the full range of motion of your arms, in and out, up and down, figure eights, giant loops, zig zag patterns, etc.
Do you think that it would be useful training to do that? Ignore movements and just randomly (but smoothly) move the weight around, becoming comfortable with it and how to move your body to be able to hold it, irregardless of the position?

-Pain is weakness leaving the body- if you do not focus on the pain your mind won-t matter the pain it forgets and focuses on your tension and energy and where to send it. True focus on what you are doing will show you results once you break that focus and think about pain or comfort ability for just a second or 2 you start to weaken and this hinders progress leading to longer reps or longer recovery time. Strength comes from your mind, your body is to be prepared for the mind. Any type of training depends upon these factors.

i personally have used bruce's -Fighting man exercise- cardio regimen (bruce lee's fighting method: basic training) when i used to bounce in night clubs. i currently use his concept about speed training in regards to moving resistance as well as isometrics and eventhough i haven't done it in a while, i can dragon flag. when i get an adjustable pull up bar, i will be dragon flagging again. hell yeah. respect to sifu lee----

Number 3- I-ve read over 20 bruce lee books. He would load up a a smith machine to the max. Then he would tie it down so it wouldn-t move. He would then use every muscle in his body trying to move it. Develop the length he can use his power. In his theory, unstoppable force(Bruce lee) meets unmovable force. He would also attach a chain to the ground and do the same thing.

Bruce Lee is one of my mentors for sure. You don't even need to train to get better at fighting. Just read his work. I plan to train as much like him as possible. I'm looking up everything I can on Lee. I want to be one of those low key badasses. One thing that I know for sure is that the mind has much more to do with strength than what most people think.

It makes perfect sense now why people say he hits like a truck. If he can summon the entirety of his muscle network structure into one focal point in combination with high speed delivery then that would explain the devastating blows like one inch punch. Bruce Lee also said he wanted to punch as hard as a kick and kick as fast as a punch.

I'm all looking for a good workout and it turns out I just need to keep doing my forms as my Grandfather advised me using Isometrics and dynamic tension like I used to do. Of course add push-ups, curls, and those dragon flags. The main thing I am horrible at is Nutrition and getting enough sleep.

-Be formless, shapeless, like water. You put water into a cup it becomes the cup, you put water into a bottle it becomes the bottle, you put water into a tea pot it becomes the tea pot. Now water can flow, or it can crash. Be water my friend-

For a guy who was training in the 1960s, without much guidance from training experts, Bruce Lee pretty much figured out the lean muscular look that you didnt see during those days. He was abnormally driven that both benefited him and caused his early death.
