The Lower Back Fat / Love Handle Myth (BUSTED)

The lower back and love handles is one of the biggest problem areas for guys when it comes to fat storage. While women tend to store fat in their thighs and rear ends, men have the hardest time getting the stubborn fat to leave their waistline. In this video however, I-m going to dispel the proper way to attack this problem once and for all. As with any problem with body fat, your first, second and third lines of attack need to revolve around fixing your nutrition. No body fat issue is going to be tackled with exercise alone. Not only is spot reduction simply not possible or even an efficient way of going about this but it just won-t have the impact that changing your diet for the better can have. A lot of people shy away from trying to make changes to their diet and nutrition however because they simply don-t want to give up the foods that they like to eat. That-s fine, but then you better not complain when you turn around and see that layer of lower back fat accumulating around your waist. If you want to get rid of lower back fat you want to start improving the foods that you eat. Drinking too much alcohol can also be a quick place to make changes if you want to reduce your love handles and the fat that you accumulate around your waist. It-s far too easy to ingest too many calories from drinks since the liquid calories go down virtually unnoticed. Know what I mean? That said, from an exercise stand point, many people will try to get rid of their love handles and lower back fat by hitting the low back directly with hyperextensions or the love handles with side bends. Neither of these exercises will do much to decrease your body fat. First of all, the concept of spot reduction as I said is not possible. Second of all, the muscles involved in these moves (even if there were spot reduction) are not vast or large enough to cause a maximal metabolic increase by performing them. Instead, opt for the big moves like a deadlift which requires that you develop tremendous lower back strength and stability. Maintain the strong arch throughout your lower back throughout the movement and aim to increase the weight you lift on the exercise as often as possible. Over time, you-ll notice not only your low back but your entire body becoming more muscular which will help you burn more fat at rest over the long term. For a complete training system that includes fat burning meal plans, be sure to head to and get the ATHLEAN-X Training System. Start training and eating like an athlete and start looking like one year round

Hello everyone, i have a question or two. I lost over 200 lbs and put on some muscle putting me at 190lbs-200lbs. The lowest i could get was 179 to ship out to bootcamp. From bootcamp till now i have went from a xl shirt to being able to fit a medium nicely and dropped several pants sizes. I did not start weight training till last year and it has been two years since joining but i still weigh 190lbs-200lbs. I still carry a lot of fat in my arms, back, butt, thighs and a little in my chest. I paid out of pocket to get loose skin and fat on my stomach removed in an attempt to make it easier for taping and now have a flat stomach but it did not address the taping issue and i have a very thin neck. So if I-ve been dieting and exercising well enough to keep it off for three plus years but cannot address those issues, is getting surgery for every area my only option? Is it still possible for me to lose more fat and then try to fill in the skin? Why would i still be carrying this weight before and after the weights? My strength has went through the roof but i slimmed down to this point and didn-t gain any size or weight and still look relatively the same, i just don-t understand

Nutrition? There's nothing left but to stop eating all together. I already consume less than 1800 calories/day with many days being around 1400. I eat very little bread, rice, or potatoes at any one time. For instance, yesterday I had one slice of toast to eat with my omelette, and I had 3/4 cup of mashed potatoes at supper. The rest of my calories came from meat and other vegetables for a total intake of 1420 calories. My diet has been very similar for several months but occasionally I will consume over 2000 calories. My weight is only creeping back up. My body is very lean with the exception of my belly which has a little less than 1/2 inch of fat, but my lower back carries about 1-1/2 inches of fat. I just cant seem to lose that last bit.

I've been skinny fat my whole teenage life. I'm no longer a teen and I've finally started training (stopped this month due to exams or I will fail, and even though I slowly and gradually build upper body muscle and get some newbie gains, I still can't lose the waist/lower back fat. Once the exams are over and I have more time and a clear mind (just my job to deal with, not work and studies, I'll try my best to put more effort in working out. I might involve some cardio by playing soccer (even if it's simply taking shots by myself. I hope I'll finally get rid of it.

I'm wondering if this is just a me problem or not but I've got big love handles and there's clearly a good amount of muscle there too. I'm by no means in the best shape, and I definitely gather fat there anyway but there's also definitely a big lump of muscle there that's contributing to the problem, I've done a little research myself and I think what it might be is just overlarge gluteus medias mucles. regardless, if anyone else knows more about this please share and if you anyone knows if there's ways to target and loose mucles instead of fat Id be happy to hear it.

Hello there, just to say a BIG thanks for this helpful information. I have always had a lean back, and -sorry not very modest- proud of it. .. but recently I have seen exactly the same fat you showed in this video. I am past 60, still workout 3 or 4 times a week and I thought the fat was part of getting older. What you amade me realize is that during this pandemic, i gained 6 pownds, and I hope, after I lose them, I will also be able to get rid of these love handles. Thank you so much!

I got into fitness 3 years ago at age 42, and he's right. My back fat will not go away! Plus my lower belly fat. I have like a 4 1/2 pack. lol. I tried every exercise. changed my diet up. I almost had it gone at one point then I had inflammation in my shoulder, so I had to stop working out for a month. Can't get it back now! I'm thinking my age is making it harder or I'm doing something wrong but glad to hear it's the hardest to get rid of. lol. Least I'm not the only one.

I-m 6-2 male, I went from 140 lbs to 175 with working out and drinking vegan protein + eating frequently /healthy. I-m still slim/toned but all of a sudden that back area /love handle is flat but looks like it has cellulite, also my glutes / ass have it too when I squeeze. What should I do because I want to keep my gains but I don-t wanna see no bumpy weirdness going on, should I do more cardio? I don-t do cardio at all I just do free weighs

I was weighing 192 and in 3 months I have gone down to 170 from exercises/ treadmill. Love handles still there though it has shrunk its still there. I have 20 more pounds to go till I meet my 150 goal. But I doubt they will go away even then. They ruin everything including self esteem and relationship goals. So I recently said F-kit I'm going under the knife. Love handles will never come back again. Love handles dont run my life. NO

Odd thing. A while ago I tried to diet for about a month. I also exercised 3-4 times a week. Mainly running or biking. I used slim fast as breakfast and lunch. Switching L to B on somedays. Appetite suppressants. Fruit smoothies, sandwiches, lots of water and when I couldn-t resist junk cravings I-d just split the food for now and later lol. I did managed to drop 13lbs

I have and always have had love handles even when i was at 10% body fat. Running 5 miles no sweat and eating heavy vegetarian (4-5days per week) still had back fat.
Question: will glute medius workouts help to hide back fat? I have a skinny butt so my back fat looks extra bad, if i workout my side butt that should help hide the love handles, right?
