I am in my 60 s and for the last 30 years my goal has not been to look like Arnold, but rather to have his training philosophy. I look at how he used to do every exercise with enthusiasm, instead of dreading. He recently said in an interview how he never understood how lifters would just stand their going through the motions. That is why a lot of people use such heavy weight they are no longer able to keep strict form, but they can lie to themselves and use it as an excuse as to why their form is so bad. The same with lifting when your mind is not in it. Sometimes your body is telling your mind it needs a break, instead of just dropping the weight that day and doing more reps. Other lifters (including myself) have done this, and a 1/4 of the way into the workout gotten re energized and ended up having a serious heavy day.

As a younger man in the 90s, I trained the Arnold way (I watched the movie, I read the book. I worked out the entire upper body 3 times a week and legs once a week (it has always taken my legs a week to recover from one heavy workout. I put on 65 natural pounds at a very lean body mass in 3 years but overtraining gave me a life time of pains as well (shoulders, elbows, back especially) that I still contend with. I think if you are pushing for quicker gains at the risk of injury, then go for it. But, I'd say that lifting is best as a long game.

I'm currently eating Carnivore (Ruminant Meats, Dairy, Eggs, water. I purposely get 60% of my calories from FAT, and am LOSING weight. FAT, in and of itself, is NOT the issue. The absence of fat (especially animal fat) in your diet, causes your body to turn carbs (not just flours and grains, but also fruits and vegetables) into Fat because it sees itself as STARVING for Fat.

It would be interesting to follow Tony Sansone s diet and workout from the 1920s. I think he was the first bodybuilder who published items like these. I have both originals, Tony Sansone s Weight Gain Diet along with his Progressive Home Physical workout. However, I feel a lot of his success was related to good genes and non-processed food at the time.

Arnold made his own protein shakes, and mass gainer shakes.
The actual recipes are in the encyclopedia of modern bodybuilding.
He would add protein powder, (which was milk and egg protein powder) and add cream, milk etc.
It's all in there, if you actually read it of course.
I'm referring to the original pressing, not the crap reissue.

I did every body part 3 -4x week. 21 days straight, 3. 5 -4 hrs a day. After 2 weeks, your not sore or even get tired, but i switched to 3day split, shoulders/legs/core, back/bi, chest/tri and actually rest the 4th day. seeing way more muscle mass gains, but overall strength n mobility dropped

I had great results doing chest/back Monday and Thursday, shoulders/arms Tuesday and Friday, Legs Wednesday, sprints Saturday.
But. as a natural it still does catch up to you and a week off after 2 months is beneficial, or a 3 x times full body deload week.

Did you quit being vegan? Also during this video I paused it and walked to the kitchen to get another beer. When I managed to come back to the sofa, my heart was racing. Does this mean I m getting fit? At least my cardio should be improving, right?

I am 68 yrs. Right now I am training 2 days for about half hour or 45 minutes and one day off. No Sundays. I am now getting my protein from beans, smoothies. I love it! Meat goodbye. So hard to digest. I feel better, more energy.

Also a good idea to point out that in his early body build days, Arnold used steroids. He's been open about this. So yeah, that can help train so intens like he did.

I tried Arnold s training split for a week or so and certainly struggled with the volume, but it was effective at keeping me sore, meaning it worked
Lol

It was steroids, and discipline,
Nobody can build so much muscle with food and training, you need to eat a horse every day
