The rotation of the body is easy to do, but many people dont know that there is a short pause in the rotation. This pause makes you swim way faster. The energy transfer between arms and legs is what makes you move well in the water. It doesn't matter if you use your legs a lot or a little. Many call that transfer of energy body rotation. But if you look at it in detail, the whole body doesnt rotate at the same time or to the same degree. Doing that is a big mistake. I tried these suggestions today with spectacular results. I've never had formal swim training since 5 y/o at the Y, so I've probably developed some bad form over the years. My shoulders don't have much space under the acromion, and the way I've been swimming freestyle, if I try to go hard I get a lot of pain in my shoulders.
Today I tried doing each stroke slowly, like a 3 count for each stroke. I whipped my hip around while stretching forward, it reminds me of striking in martial arts. Striking starts from the foot, rotates up through the hip, then to the shoulder, and ends with extension of the arm. So I focused on each portion of the movement while swimming. I did it slowly, back and forth a few times, and my shoulder impingement didn't seem to be activated.
So then I tried going fast, and still had no shoulder pain. Then I went really fast, faster than I've ever stroked before. It was amazing! And it was much easier than trying to go fast the way I was doing it before, and also easier to breathe. Hours later my shoulders still feel fine.

If I might make a constructively meant comment - the information quality of the video is absolutely superb, but the video starts too quickly and is too intense - hard to pay attention at all times (at least I had to replay some bits, despite it being very understandable, but too dense)

Thanks for the video and the illustrative examples. Helps me so much. I am improving a little not like you. Thanks to my friend Said that guide me in my learning process, helps me so much in my body position when to work it with him since 5 years ago, and now I'm swim alone practicing

I am having the exact issue right now. I know my arm rotation is too fast thus I am learning to give it a pause. However my hip and kick dont coordinate with my arm swing to resemble Belakes demo. This video explains what I am doing wrong. I will try these tips to get to the right place.

Is he deliberately mispronouncing Aaron or what. I thought these videos were some kind of joke because of that but they clearly are technically correct so I'm not sure what's going on with the choice of names being mispronounced on purpose but it's weird.

The demonstrations are so amazing that I can even watch it on mute and understand! (Was watching on public transit and forgot my headphones at home. Thank you!

This is a great video but like so many videos from the US it runs far too fast and the speaker is racing through the material so the message is lost.

When you say activate the hips or activate the glutes do you mean tense these muscles up when swimming? Thanks for helping.
