Love this! Last year I did 3 Olympic distance triathlons and one 70. 3 Ironman triathlon. I absolutely struggled all year with cramping during races and keeping muscle mass as I did almost zero strength and 98% cardio as my training plan outlined. The lack of strength training killed not only my results but my overall enjoyment of the race experience. It felt bizarre to experience muscle cramps while my cardio engine felt strong. This year I-m doing exactly what Cori is stating here. Strength work with cardio but with a focus on strength. I-ll be 51 this year and I-m finding it more and more difficult to keep muscle on and fat off. Thanks for the video, Cori! --

50 year old male, training 4 days/week, chiming in. I've got around 120lbs to lose. My eating habits are getting better and are, easily the biggest challenge for me. My strength/muscle work consists of kettlebells and heavy clubs and I am using my rower (a C2) immediately afterwards as a way to keep my heart rate up for a longer period of time (aiming for 10-15 minutes but I'm pretty gassed after the other work. Cory, would you say that I am on the correct path regarding how I am using the C2 or should I approach it differently?

Thank you for this content! I'm not sure if I would have heard your message some years ago when I burned myself out by consistently killing myself day in and day out, no rest. Now that I am older, I am realizing how much more important strength is over cardio. It's very hard to get out of the mindset that you have held for literally decades. Thank you for breaking this down and explaining it. I also appreciate you mentioning the fallacy of feeling as though we are in control of the situation by doing more.

I am currently hitting cardio almost every day (I usually prefer HIIT/ Resistance) because, and hold your breath, I am TRYING to lose muscle mass.
My thighs are insanely thick (former powerlifter) for my 5' frame and even after burning fat/ keeping muscle has not improved my thighs, I realized that the surplus muscle is what keeps my legs from looking leaner. So this clip's advice only affirms that I am doing the right thing! -

Depends on the person. Once upon a time, I used to do lots of cardio and I gained muscle. Yes, I was eating healthy and I was starting to lean out but BDD ruined it for me. Since beginning to lift weights, losing weight and looking trim have become significantly more difficult.
Moral of the story: learn about your body (type, find out what works for you and stick to it.

You are right on time. Been struggling with my workout. I am not losing anyweight eventhough i do 45 mins of brisk walk as pre warm up then 30 mins rebounding or dancing then 30-45 mins pilates 5-6x a week. Plus 30 mins of walk on treadmill at night after dinner. Im moving total of 2 1/2 hrs a day or 3 hrs.

Well, I think my body gone wild. I do strenght trainings and without longer cardio sessions I cannot loose a gram. I look for different exercises to make my training more challenging, but cardio really matters in my case. And not eating after 6 pm.

Repeat after Corey - you can-t outexercise a bad diet. I used to use the Oreo equivalent of exercise. Two Oreos are 106! Calories. For me that-s walking a mile - (I weigh185 and am (was) 6- 1-. And who eats only 2.
