Peeing is no problem for guys.
If you are a women i'd suggest going to a restaurant or going to McDonalds!
McDonals is a great place to go, because it is guarenteed to have a toilet, but you do have to pay like 50 eurocents (0. 60 dollars)
Just thought i'd put that out there for the tourists.
Oh and the beggar thing is not 100% true. I go to Amsterdam 5 days a week and i haven't seen them acting weird like that (yet. They mostly just hang around at the Vondelpark or sit on the ground against a wall with a sign that says i need money.
And the only people that could annoy you are people at skincare shops. They are the only people that try to get you in they're shop to buy stuff.
But they also give you little free testers (mostly perfume so i always go over and get some haha.
And I'm not saying that everyone will do this, but please don't ask ANYONE to take a picture of you and give them your camera, phone etc.
Because how easy is it to take the phone let you guys pose and the run off with your electronic device!
and wear your backpack on your belly in crowded areas: ) doesn't look fashionable, but it'll probably save you money.

Dude Ive been there 3 times and never was approached by an aggressive beggar. You must look easy. I would add:
11. World class Indonesian food because of the Dutch empire.
12. Incredible trolly system allows access to any part of the city
13. Under no circumstance take a picture of the girls in the red light district. Its prohibited. We witnessed at least 3 phones ripped out of peoples hands and tossed into the canals by under cover security dudes watching specific shops
14. Even in summer the weather was typically overcast for the most part and much chillier than suburban DC
15. The canal boat tour rides suck. The boats are covered with very limited viewing spots. Very expensive
16. The Dutch railway is fantastic. A great side visit is to the historic town of Utrecht. Absolutely beautiful
17. Buy all museum tours on line. Hes right the lines are unbelievable otherwise. Pay for the audio self guided tour at Van Gogh. One of the best audio tours anywhere

i am flemish, and at some point we had our end of the year trip there, and at one of the tramstops a bunch of black teens started verbally assaulting our women, to which ofcourse we reacted, i think i remember a police officer just standing there until their tram left
so i would say the dutch themselves are pretty decent, the immigrants are much less so, the dutch born minorities may be less of a problem, but i think it is mostly a big city thing

Yeah okay the beggar thing: guys i think this is something that only happens to tourists. Ive never once in my 26 years had a problem with beggars in the Netherlands but thats likely because they recognize me as a native.
Im tempted to believe him when he says they can be trouble for tourists.

I visited Amsterdam some twenty years ago and yes I am guilty of many of those things -especially the drunk and high tourist part but what I still find shocking to this day is how patient and kind the Dutch were
reply

No one ever asked me for money in any way during my trips. I use to go two times a year 1 for Lowlands festival and then for the new year. But that was back in the day, good to know and watch out for.

I've been to Amsterdam and Rotterdam and my experience was that 90% of the people I encountered couldn't speak English including restaurants. I really had to brush up on my dutch!
reply

When we visited, I asked a resident why they all spoke such good English. He explained that many of the TV shows are American, with no subtitles. They learn young, watching TV.

Im planning to go to Amsterdam so this could be helpful. I didnt kno the beggars where that bad. Ive been told theres Couture there which shocked me.
reply

Please, when visiting the Netherlands, try to speak Dutch. Even a few words. Yes we speak English but we love to hear foreigners speak our language: )
