Two trip reports for the price of one! Let's compare the domestic First Class experiences with Delta Air Lines and American Airlines. The first flight is on a new Delta 737-900ER from ATL - PHX. The second is on an older American A321 from PHX - DCA

Just got delayed on American because they didn't know what to do with their crew members then they wanted to have the people who already boarded deplane because they couldn't figure out who was staying then I saw some very frustrated crew members who thought they were getting a 30 minute flight deplane and on top of that the people at the desk were incredibly rude I had a terrible experience with American yesterday but most the employees themselves were amazing except the one lady at the desk but you could see and hear the frustration of the employees and I felt really bad for them because you could tell they were hating their jobs at that moment but still kept a brave face

I was so disappointed with American Airlines first class as opposed to Delta. Delta gives you access to their Sky Club Lounge with a first class ticket where American does not. The crew on Delta have been so fantastically kind and attentive 99% of the time. I think I just got used to Delta so much that, flying American once - especially being denied entry into the lounge - just turned me off from them. I've never thought of myself as being loyal to a specific airline but I think I've changed and am Delta all the way!

This is really complicated. I live in Manchester England and often travel to USA Business or First. Delta is our main route, but we also have American and United. Trans Atlantic First Class is not the same as USA First Class. Virgin Atlantic (Delta) is much better than Delta. American and United! AVOID! BA is the cheapest route to LAX but! They are all pretty dreadful. The only high point is that on Virgin you can get drunk at the bar.

As a Brit who has never flown with any of the big 3, here's what I've learned from watching various travel reviews and reading the comment sections:
1. Everyone who has flown American says they hate it and would rather fly Delta.
2. Everyone who has flown Delta says they hate it and would rather fly United.
3. Everyone who has flown United hate it and would rather fly American.

few months ago we flew 1st from SFO to Atl on Delta and breakfast was a cold sandwich-one slice of ham, slice of cheese, white bread. Before boarding I asked if there was breakfast and they said yes. No blanket, no pillow. On the way back it was a lie flat, no pillow, no blanket. We go to Jamaica every winter and Delta fares are almost double American fares.

I had the opposite experience flying to Hawaii from the east coast and back -- no in flight entertainment on my Delta Comfort+ plane and the food was terrible. Literally uneatable. The AA Premium Economy was a 787 and a MUCH nicer plane and the food was excellent. We even had our own dedicated Premium cabin area separate from the main cabin.

Thank you for the video. I'm shocked what the US airline market is selling as first class. If you fly on european main carrier's products - let alone middle east and asian ones - you get such seats and meals in premium economy already. Is this a sign for the ulcer of capitalism (aka rip off) has reached it's very terminal stage in the US?

If you really love to fly, IFE is not needed. My nose is against the window the whole flight. I can fly for 4 hours and never would take anytime to entertain myself except whats going on outside. You'll be amazed what you miss if your watching a movie in the sky.

One of the things I love about sitting in front of the engines is that you can hear the whine of the engine without the jet wash splashing against the fuselage to cover it up. Ive only ever down it once on a plane with wing-mounted engines, a SouthWest 737-800.

Allmost of this film was looking out the cabin window. You spent three or four minutes looking out the window during taxiing and takeoff. Same view from economy class. You need todo more for your freebie travel video ticket. Airlines: pass. Reviewer: FAIL.

Delta because my family and I flew American Airlines from Dallas to Seattle for vacation and almost every American Airlines planes we flew on were older and are planes broke down and the cabin crew on delta in my personal opinion is a lot nicer.

So many idiots comparing domestic first class to international First or business class. Of course international is better. Why not compare Americans international F to Delta's intl F. Ooops, you can't because Delta doesn't have intl F.

10: 55. Ive flown on that flight before! Maybe not that specific plane, but I did (if its from FRA!
I also literally live right under the flight path your plane took into DCA. It was kinda trippy ALMOST SEEING MY HOUSE IN THIS VIDEO!

My personal rankings for the 3 legacy carriers used to be Delta, American, United. For me in the past 18 months United has upped their game and have nosed out Delta and exceeded American by a lot. I actually was amazed with United.
reply

In North America first class does mean business unless going over seas
If you are flying Scare Canada all North American flights are their charter airline Rouge
Its an economy seat without the middle seat. Being empty

Oddly enough, I am flying from Lewiston idaho to Minneapolis via SLC on the E175 to the 737-900 on Delta. 3 days after I am flying Minneapolis to Billings via DFW on American on their 737-800 and E175. All in First Class.

I am probably one of the few people who truly prefers American. I fly it about every 2 weeks, yes, I have issues occasionally. But not nearly as many as I have had on united. (Delta is my other favorite)
reply

American has some good first class products domestically but they really need to update the us airways planes however weirdly everytime I fly American vs Delta the crews are a lot better on American
reply

There was no excuse for American Airlines in this day and age to not have in-flight entertainment hell I flew first class on Delta back in 2002 and had my own TV screen and in-flight entertainment
reply

Delta may be nicer but I prefer American because kids under 13 are guaranteed to sit by someone else but on delta theyll put a 3 year old in completely different part of the plane by themself
reply

I agree totally with you! First class attendants (AA) in my experience have been truly just genuinely friendly and accomodating. Delta is not the same. This is based on domestic in the USA.
reply

I've flown AA first class Reno to Jax NC three times in late 2019, not impressed. The A320 is getting old and no entertainment systems of any kind.
Oh, beware of AA yellow rice.

reply

American took out seatback screens, even in 1st except for widebody overseas flights-CHEAP. The extra inch they save from each seat lets them squeeze in another row in coach.
reply

Delta is just miles ahead. Everytime Ive flown with AA, Ive had massive delays and they ruin my plans. They treat customers like crap and dont even offer a customary apology.
reply

I like both equally, they both have their ups and downs and I am a member of Americans alliance and deltas alliance because I fly BA and Klm frequently
reply

Probably not such a great idea to compare dinner service on one carrier with breakfast service on another. nor exactly an apples to apples comparison.
reply

Hey Jeb. I got a question for you. What is the best amount of time in between layovers? Is a minimum of 2 hrs ok or should it be more or less?
reply

Omg! You has a Cloudy das in Arizona. That is very nice to see. Greetings forma Phoenix Az our current wheather is 109 degrees at 10: 43pm
reply

WHAT i went from atlanta to pheonix in an A321neo and btw this looks just like my flight and btw then i when in a350
reply

This is like having to choose between a city bus (american) and a luxury vehicle (delta. There simply is no comparison.
