Rating: 4.0; Vote: 1
United Airlines, jetBlue, Delta Air Lines, and American Airlines offer their premium products on the heavily competitive routes between the Northeast of the United States and the West Coast. This video compares United Airlines' Premium Transcontinental Service, jetBlue's Mint Service, Delta Air Lines' DeltaOne Service, and American Airlines' Flagship First Service. In the Transcon Throwdown miniseries, I've been checking out the best service from the four major US airlines (United, jetBlue, Delta, and American) on their routes between the Northeast and the West Coast. Now that I've tried out all four products, here's a wrap-up video comparing and rating each airline on their: 1. Seat 2. Food 3. Service 4. Entertainment In this final episode, we review each of the four flights (United Transcon Premium Service, jetBlue Mint Class, DeltaOne, and American Airlines Flagship First. Watch the video to see the winner of the #TransconThrowdown! 5: 30 Too powerful? What does that mean? That sounds like it's too good. Airlines intentionally try to make their food have strong taste & flavor because they understand that food tastes different when you're in an airplane flying at 40, 000 feet above sea level, in a cabin that is usually low-humidity. As someone who has flown economy many times, i would prefer my food have strong flavor and be bold because usually they're bland and tasteless.
3: 00 Age of aircraft is meaningless because our nation has strict FAA standards that all US aircraft need to comply with, talk to any aviation mechanic like myself and you'll know. Many people have fear of flying but the numbers show that you're more likely to die in a car accident than in an airplane, especially a commercial airplane. You're more likely to be struck by lightning. Think of it this way, if cars were maintained the way airplanes were, cars would last nearly forever.
Do the same test in ECONOMY please! Most people don't fly first class or business class! You can buy three economy tickets with the cost of a first class ticket!
Why do you bother sharing the price? Most people who fly First Class aren't purchasing their tickets but rather having it paid for by their company or frequent flyer membership. If you're flying First Class, that price difference is likely insignificant.
You can purchase three economy class tickets for the price of a First Class ticket, only a quarter of americans have ever left their state and few fly First Class. And even fewer fly international.

Great informative video Jeb, but I didn't hear you mention VALUE. I. E. Value in the way of airline branded credit card points when booking tickets on each individual airline. Maybe RC is equal to Shasta if you are earning a more significant amount of points on a different airline.
The airline lounge experience adds value also, just as JetBlue gives inflight Wi-Fi (FlyFi. Some airline lounges offer showers as value. And the difference in NYC airports and west coast airports offering premium trans-con flights.
The video was excellent, but I don't believe the comparisons were apple-to-apple. However, I did appreciate the video and I look forward to viewing more!

While I have yet to fly Delta, Jet Blue on a Transcon flight; I totally agree with American Airlines as the winner, although this is the only route that American wins as the other routes Charolette to Las Vegas really stinks poor service and the same goes for Las Vegas to Charolette. While mergers have been a challenge for Airlines in the past Delta handle their merger the best. I can tell when I have a United Flight Attendant vs Continental, the same for American there is a world of difference between the attitudes of flight attendants American had the best but now have the oldest group of attendants in the skys.
reply

Yes, I totally agree American Airlines wins here! I was thinking
1: American Airlines (The seats were the nicest and the food looked the best)
2: jetBlue Airways (For being a discount airline this was extremely impressive and the atmosphere was amazing)
3: United Airlines (The inflight entertainment seemed a bit dated but, the bedding tooled super comfortable) PS: My favorite airline
4: Delta Airlines (The seats looked really dated, same with the IFS, and no adjustable headrest. However, I thought that some of their touches like the wood trim was really nice)

I think that nowadays, 2022, all the prices are about the same. It really comes down to aircraft, sense these airlines have different planes on these routes. American also offers a 787/777 experience which is those Flagship First seats marked as business class. And united has a completely new product too. And JetBlue can be purchased for $649 on some days. All of these options are great and have changed since the video. It is a great thing that the video has aged horribly! Look forward to seeing a new transcon throw down!
Keep up the great work!

American Airlines has terrible customer service. I bought a first class seat. Flight cancelled. Then I didnt get my seat back. Neather did anybody that bought first class. I love jet blue mint because there first class gets the job done and they are the most friendly airline the US. ALSO JetBlue has the most flights available in their first class. You can find at least three first class flights from anyone of there routes

This is interesting. I flew AA recently first class and I found it to be horrible. I mean absolutely horrible but this was a quick Orlando to NYC flight so maybe its not as good. I personally think Delta has the best service in first but Jetblue flights can be comparable. Very interesting video. Not enough to make me consider flying AA. They just have horrible serivce but I'm curious about the Jetblue experience.

Great review Jeb! Always like your videos and the Jeb Score! But I experienced THE BEST First Class Service on American Airlines Transcons between JFK and LAX back in the late 90s on their 767-200ER! WOW! Those seats were massive in a 2-1-2 configuration, and the service and the food were outstanding! Can't even compare today's service and meals to those on the 90s. Cheers!
reply

I guess those suites are only available on flights between the northeast and California. You would think Delta would have offered that same service from ATL to PDX. I flew that one 1st class and it was your typical 2-2 configuration for a domestic 1st class flight on a 757. But that's ok, because I got the full meal service along with nonstop drink offerings.

Jeb just a few words to congratulate you for your engagement. You seem to be on cloud nine. There's a special glimmery in your eyes and a spring step in your tone of voice. You seem to be definitely in cloud Nine and I am happy for you. It couldn't happen to a better guy. All the best and thank you for your always very professional work.

As of 2020:
My opinion for economy: Jetblue because of its large amount of legroom, clean cabin, snack bar, and mood lighting
My opinion for business/first: United because of its amazing polaris 787-10 product, great new lounges, good food and entertainment, and whats not to love about a widebody on a domestic route!

Considering the price, Delta is the winner, 'cause all the aspects are quite close except American, which was First Class and American offers also Business Class in this airplaine starting from 659$ OW. Considering all aspects and the cabin and experience I agree with you, American clearly won this competition.
reply

Who would win my Transcon throwdown? Amtrak. But my rating includes the whole experience and, as a retiree, duration is not a factor. Air travel on any American airline is a miserable experience from airport arrival to baggage recovery. On domestic flights, you get to suffer at both ends, as well as in between.
reply

Ive flown all of these products in the last 2 years (except united. I always chose AA business because of the lounge access, but the best service and food was JetBlue mint. Delta was iffy. ; I got an A330, but my IFE didnt work and no appetizer. If jetblue had a lounge they would be the best,
reply

7: 37 I think if you want to do the premuim porducts, I think you didn't give Delta and United justice, well Delta has their Delta One, and United has their Polaris First on a few 777-200ER's, and I think that thos ecould easily compete with American's Flagship First
reply

My personal favorite is United not just because Im a former employee, but Ive flown their business class on their premium service SFO-EWR and BOS-SFO and flown their Polaris from FRA-SFO and SFO-NRT, and was absolutely blown away by the service on all those routes.
reply

It's good you compared aa in f because aa j is absolutely crap Alaska economy is better then j aa especially service wise and it could be you had a bad experience but JetBlue mint I thought was unbelievable especially the service, food
reply

been awhile, would love to see another one of these! Uniteds killing it these days because theyre often flying new 787s and new-ish 777s in a 3 cabin layout with their newer Polaris seats, at least once a day even to Chicago
reply

I HATE AMERICAN IT IS THE WORST
only 1 flight was good when i flew first from puerto rico and frankfurt the only good part was the crew that was helpful that my mom got stuck in sercurity and he cheared my sister and me up

reply

I agree with Alfredo. To me, the seat and entertainment system are key. Even if Delta does not offer an appetizer, how much food does one really need in five hours? Delta has a great wine selection, as well.
reply

Thank You Jeb! I am a Flight for American and I think we offer a pretty damn good product! PLEASE don't put JET BLU with us. Let's compare AA UA andd DAL Jet Blu has no place here. Thanks Tim
reply

American has always been my fav! Delta is overrated! Jetblue blah and United ive never flown a nice one always old and hard seats and loud. i think United is an American brand now
reply

Undecided between JetBlue and Delta but leaning more towards the first one. Although let's be honest, most of us the middle class will usually hop on whatever flight is cheaper haha.
reply

I flew 2 out of 4 airlines in this video. But Id say JetBlue was a favorite Delta wasnt bad until the run turn flight they gave us cookies and I got chips on my JetBlue flight
reply

JetBlue is the winner, they treat there passengers like there the kings. The legroom in economy is 35 inches, and the TVs on the A321 is the largest of all the legacy airlines
reply

jeb brooks JetBlue because they are using a A321 and no other airline offers that. there food is great and IFE is amazing. the bed in my opinion is great.
reply

i cant count the amount of times flyfi or the in flight entertainment has been down on jet blue. i always check delta first now. never had an issue.
reply

Flying the reverse of this route (AS1) in 2 weeks, but probably going to end up in cattle quarters unless my upgrade miraculously clears. :(
reply

Jet blue we are on time
United we are delayed 1 hour
Delta we are delayed 5 min
American we are delayed 7 hours or cancelled

reply

I fly American a lot and I think that it is very nice. However, the Delta cabin looks almost like it is new. The seats look so nice.
