I've done Lufthansa first and Swiss first and I have to say that the bedding in Swiss is much better. Still, you cannot beat this level of luxury for travel, especially the caviar and vodka. The service is unbeatable, the bathroom is luxurious, and the roses everywhere are an awesome touch. I was, however, really disappointed in the fact that if you're connecting in Frankfurt, you can't get to the First-Class terminal and see the plane from the ground. The service on the ground on a connecting flight isn't what I expected for the price tag. But if you're flying from Frankfurt in First you get the whole treatment and that's something I hope to do one day. Still at the top of my bucket list is La Premier. one day. Happy travels!

Problems with first class:
1) the price of a first class seat is ridiculous
2) Airline lounges never fail to disappoint, whatever the airline. The food sucks and they tend to be overcrowded
3) The Champagne and wine and food onboard is mediocre. You're paying top dollar for crap wines, basically hundreds of dollars a glass compared to coach
4) You're isolated from your travelling companion, thus, making the 12 hour trip less enjoyable
Benefits of first class:
1) joining the mile-high club is hella easier
2) service is tp notch with one flight attendant for every 2-4 passengers
3) no limits on booze and coffee
4) lots of storage for all that crap you brought onboard
5) no annoying seat mates

First time I flew in a jumbo (Virgin Atlantic to San Francisco) I thought I would try this first row as a novelty. Big mistake! We had sustained turbulence a couple of hours into the flight and I was nearly shaken out of my seat. Despite the seatbelt signs the helpful cabin crew relocated me to a seat at the rear of the class and the effect was far less. Basic principle of leverage I guess. Anyway I didn't get to San Francisco before the pilot and and subsequently whichever plane I flew across the Atlantic on I always opted for the rear of business class or first class.

The B747-8 sold few passenger jets but plenty of cargo variants. That is too bad but I hope to try out Lufthansa's passenger service one day.
One can tell the big difference between the Air France and the Lufthansa first class areas just by looking at them!
One should always expect substandard everything from China. I flew Air China back in 1999 (my first B777 ride) and was not surprised at how inferior that airline was compared to Cathay Pacific which had brought me to Hong Kong.

I don't care for Lufthansa, I did not fly first class so the service is not as nice. In coach the seats are terribly uncomfortable, the food sucks really bad, I always look for other airlines first, but the last time Lufthansa had the non-stop flight and the cheapest price. I had to ask for my money back one year and they did give me back our money, I was ready to sue them!

In the 70's and 80's, my Dad worked for an airline and wealso had relatives in Germany at the time. So we used the employee upgrade to first class whenever we crossed over to visit. One time the actor Robert Conrad (from the Wild, Wild West TV show) was seated across from us. It was a long time ago and the seats reclined but nothing like today's seats.

In 1978-1979, i had the honor to be in the LH 747 first class on several round trips to australia and south america including the famous bar behind the Pilots, and even cockpit jump seat while landing. The miracle was that my sister was working as flight attendent and i could also be with the crew on day off. Never will i forget this priviledge

When Air New Zealand had first class on their 747 it had 12 seats but sadly nothing as good as this cabin. I flew Auckland to Los Angeles return several times. The Crew were awesome every flight. One Flight Attendant to 6 passengers. Yes a great memory. Air NZ now only provide a Business Class option but their service continues to be First Class

Did someone die on that carpet?
I would like aesthetically to see French polished wood panelling, - including around the smaller tv screen, and side curtains too.
The flower vases are great to see.
Caviar service presentation should be better.
And yes- where did the pate hide itself? Eloped with the truffles?

A long time ago I used to fly Qantas SYD-SFO. I always asked for 1A, in no small part because I wanted to be the first to get to San Francisco. But in those pre-terror days there were also a couple of times when I was allowed to sit in the jump seat for the landing. Thats an experience the hoi polloi will never have again.

To be honest, this is more like business class from any top of the 20 airlines than first class. No privacy, seats are not that luxurious and spacious as one expects from first class. So regardless of the verbose appreciation. it is not worth. Plus lufthansa is pretty low on customer care which was evident in the lounge.

Since, as you say, food and lounge facilities are better flying from the hub, it's not quite fair to judge this flight leaving from Shanghai as you do the Air France flight leaving from Paris. Perhaps you could fly this plane again, originating in Frankfurt, then you could try the schnitzel in the Frankfurt lounge.

The first time that I flew i first class was with my family from Hawaii to San Francisco on Aloha Airlines. Nothing really spectacular and the food was nothing great, I'm not one for fancy meals so I seriously told my wife I would have preferred what they were eating in coach. No wonder they went bankrupt.

10 years ago it was the Lufthansa Business class. Lufthansa is a 5-star rated airliner, but the service has dropped a lot. i flew with Lufthansa for 15 years, but i am now disappointed. there are other airliner who are offering a better service for lower price.

One would imagine that Lufthansa fields delicious looking lady flight attendants in the first class section of the aircraft. So while your commentary was outstanding it would have been nice if your film had included other people as well.

I have to agree with the air China lounge comments. Although it was in Beijings lounge. Avoid air china if you can, one of the worst flights I ever had in business class was with them.

I wouldn't have given the small IFE screen but 2, or MAYBE 3 stars. 1st Class is expensive, and it's supposed to mean 'First Class'. a screen that small woulda pissed me off.

Just a hint. never set an automatic watch counterclockwise. Some watch movements can have issues if you do that. You may want to invest in a dual time zone watch.

How do guys like this sleep at night knowing they're spending more money on a flight than a Honduran family makes in a lifetime?
