I know it would be super hard to do, but I hope someday everyone before they are allowed to fly they would have to do an Emergency Landing Certification before they can be a passenger on an airplane. Most people will never need it, but I feel knowing what to do from hearing it from flight attendants my whole life and experiencing it are two different things. And hopefully no one will ever go through it. But, I just think most people if they are put in an emergency landing situation where they have to jump into freezing cold water or go down a slide would freak out. Especially if they are a person who can't swim or are afraid of water. Again, I know it's impratical and would never happen. But, I just wish one day people would have to take some kind of plane emergency day course.

As a passenger, how am I supposed to fully understand how to retrieve the flotation device if I'm never actually shown how to do it. As with any learning experience, reading about it or being briefed on it is not an effective teaching tool. Shouldn't airports have a safety area where we can spend our free time exploring life-saving devices on planes. Because after all, during an emergency is not the time to figure these things out. I do read the safety pamphlets and I do pay attention to the safety briefings. Yet I'm still not fully confident I'll be able to find my safety vest or properly use the oxygen mask.

I've never flown. Never could afford it and really wanna visit my cousins for my 30th this year.
This made me smile. I wanna know a bit more about safety before going on as a just in case.
So that, in the case I'm ever able to afford a ticket or if something happens, I know something.
The only thing that worries me is. I'm an extremely small lady and I'm unable to swim.
I don't fear water. I fear sinking.

thank you so much for this! I am a now retired 40 year flight attendant. I trained at TWA, JETBLUE, AMERICAN and Virgin America. TWA was the most rigorous and we had to evacuate a smoky plane in the dark - there is so much more to it than passengers realize. And the medical part too! We do recurrent every year. :) I loved my career and Jetblue was a favorite

I love Delta! whenever I fly (which is rather rarely) I always fly Delta, and mostly in first class. I thought of becoming a flight attendant for Delta, but my heart yearned for me to be a assistant principal at my private high school where I graduated from. So now I am the assistant principal at my former private high school. But I always fly Delta.

I travel with my daughter a lot because shes in competitive cheer and she knows to always stop what shes doing and pay attention to the flight attendants when they are doing their demonstration at the beginning of our flights. She also knows to always check where her nearest exists are. Flight attendants, like the cockpit crews, are angels!

I was just there at Delta last week on a tour! I never flew down the chute before and its a lot higher than you think from photos. Thought it was really interesting they had an entire water landing section considering how rare such an event would be. We just had a fun tour, but now I can definetly see how intense it is.

Thanks to you Jeb for all you do for aviation and for cancer research, my dad lost his battle to bone cancer 2016 very painful and my mom is a colon cancer survivor. I believe that every passenger or aviation enthusiast should be given a chance at doing this both for their safety as well as helping in the training of future flight attendants even if it has a cost.

Interesting Jeb! There's something unsettling about the whole scene evacuating even though you know it's a simulation. Hopefully something none of us ever have to do in real life!

i think in the next few 10 years they should make parachutes for everyone incase something happens mid air so everyone could evacuate whenever

Oh my goodness I hate when flyers show up to flights barefoot. But I guess it helps when you're evacuated to an indoor swimming pool.

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT IN A CASE OF AN EVACUATION: JUMP the slide down and dont seat on it. If u seat on it u block the exit
