In this video, youll get a sense of what its like to travel the roughly two hundred miles over nine hours from Athens to Crete in the most luxurious way possible onboard a Greek Ferry. Join me as I travel from the Port of Piraeus near Athens to Heraklion on the island of Crete onboard Minoan Lines' Festos Palace ferry! This is my first ever Greek Ferry Review and I figured this was a great place to start! The Minoan Lines Festos Palace offers a range of ticket types and you'll learn about each of them along this journey from Piraeus to Milos and onward to Heraklion, but I'll spend the most time revealing the most luxurious option available onboard a Minoan Lines ferry: The Lux Deluxe room. This Luxury Overnight Ferry features a so-called Lux Deluxe room, which includes a bed, a shower, a toilet, a TV, and so much more. Youll see everything it has to offer. Youll also see the other amenities onboard, including the pool, food, and drinks. With 227 islands, its no wonder Greece has a rich history as a sea faring nation. And that tradition continues today as millions of people locals and tourists alike rely on Ferries to get around this country. Ill even rate it using the JebScore!

. for history purposes only. the ship is not a Greek one anymore. it is an Italian one. as Grimaldi is the owner of the Minoan Lines years now. and sooner or later all the remaing Big Greek Ferries companies will be coming Italian. this is actually the revenge of the Italians when many years ago the Greek ship owners who are not paying company taxes at all due to the Greek Laws had managed to send to bankruptsy the Italian ship companies such as Adriatica. by the way the specific ship is around for almost 30 years now. it is not a new one. that's all folks. cheerio.

What a great video. lt would be a nice experience. I wanted does anybody know how many ships are made in China and how many made in other countries? I asked because Chinese are buying large percentage of the shoreline in Athens like to have done in other parts of the world. Pretty much giving them a majority control of these ports. with control like this it would put these ports in a disadvantage to the nation they are operating from. Tell does anybody know what percentage of Chinese boats are being used

I was working on the sister ship Knossos Palace in the summer of 2007, on route from Patras (Greece) to Ancona (Italy. I stayed almost 3 months and it was hard work but good money.
During the initial tour we got by one of the officers, I remember him saying the following which I found really funny.
This ship is Italian and that tells you all you need to know. Meaning, it's cheap, it's fast, and it's a shity built.

Good report, well made & enjoyable. I'm a Scottish guy who lives on the Greek island of Rhodes. Whenever I go to Athens I tend to fly, simply because the flight is 50 minutes, but if you take the ferry from Rhodes to Athens it can take up to 12 hours because it stops at quite a few islands. It's more expensive to fly, around 120 return from Rhodes-Athens, but much much faster. I do like ferries though.

Megaron hotel is the best hotel in Crete. Near by is an amazing fast food restaurant with amazing souvlaki. Believe me. Cretan souvlaki is out of this world. It's huge and super tasty. Their sandwiches are even bigger. Imagine a loaf of bread, stuffed with meat and tzatziki. And never forget the main rule for tourists. If someone offers you food, always accept. It's an insult if you decline their offer.

Wow! That's an incredible review! There are so many options to do onboard! I think i will DEFINITELY try this when i go to Greece! I even want to visit Greece just to take this ferry! The room is enormous for a 9-hour journey! The food looks adequately acceptable on a short cruise like this one. That unidentified dessert is hilarious though! It seems an amazing option to travel to Crete!

I travel with minoan 4 times every year for the past 6 years and i can guarantee you that Minoan Lines is not good.
Many greeks belive that minoan are the best in the country but they are not, i dont know if you are weirdo (you sound like one) but minoan have amazing crew and thats why the greeks prefer them (They have amazing Bolognese)

Travelling by ferry from Pireas to Crete (Heraklion or Chania) makes more sense when you travel at night. The ferry starts at 9 or 10 pm and arrives at about 6 am. You don't get to pay for an extra night at a hotel, and you arrive early enough to see the city before it gets busy. A good sleep always makes a travelling shortest.

The thing to remember is that ferry personnel is hired basis safety, firefighting and crisis management. It's not a cruise ship or a plane where you pay for the way a crewmember looks or sounds.
The personnel onboard those ferries are there because of their ability to keep you safe and calm, not suck your balls.

Great review of your experience with travelling to Krete.
BTW 4: 18 this is the worse kind of slot machine the bank slot machines, the ATMs; )
You missed to encounter the salty sailor attitude when trying to park in the ship parking area that would be an experience especially when you do not speak Greek. :)

Stopped at 2: 08. After that you pretty much know how it's going to go, so no point watching further. Crossing the street was downright scary. Felt like I was taking my life into my own hands. Brrrr, really? On a scale from 1 to 10, it must have been an 11.

The desert was a spoon desert. It's basically cut fruits stored in their own syrup. It's usually served with sheep or goat yoghurt, though it's also eaten plain. I'm not sure what type of fruit it is but it looks kind of like a bergamot under that lighting.

There's a metro, and mainline train, from Athens to Piraeus. Piraeus is technically a separate city from Athens but it's like a suburb as both are joined up by urban sprawl. Those ferries go about a 15 minutes walk from the 2 Piraeus rail stations.

I've stayed at the Megaron Hotel! Loved it! Best breakfast I've ever had in a hotel. Good restaurant, but there are so many amazing options with great dining experiences in the city, we only had dinner at the hotel restaurant one night

The unidentified desert was probably gluko tou koutaliou - karpouzi which is a type of a sugary treat made with fruits and in your case the fruit was watermelon. It's quite a traditional type of treat for guests.

Minoan is not a Greek company. It is owned by Grimaldi and this has a big negative impact on quality of service. I used to travel on the Adriatic line and I can compare the before vs after Minoan was acquired.

Best of the lot (jointly with the Knossos Palace, obviously. Easily the finest ferries on which I've ever travelled. As for crew: utterly superb, there when needed, invisible when not. Just as they should be!

Thanks for the video Jeb! I love your content, you present so well in all of your videos. I laughed so much with your room tour commentary of all the things you can do, the editing was hilarious HAHAHA!

The unidentified dessert that you mentioned is called kidoni - preserve of quince - an odd, unusual, fruit that is delicious and fragrant. Nice to sweeten the palate after any meal.

I'm surprised on the of Minoan service, theyr realy good my sister always been complementary been to Creta several times over the past fiew years but not this summer.
reply

You don t have a clue.
No Idea.
This is not a cruise ship and try to find better anywhere else.
It s a ro ro passenger ship.
Man you are irrelevant.

I've been to that ship over 50times! I'm a Cretan and I go to Athens with my family around 6 times a year. Festos and Knossos palace(ships)are incredible ships.

If you did that trip it would have to be overnight. Doesnt make much sense during the day at all, unless you have just got off a night flight and need to sleep

I personally think that the Fast Ferries Thunder ferry is the best option for fast and luxurious travel with pizza, snacks, etc. But get first class for sure.
reply

i have taken Anek boats it was 2001 but this Minoan is the best one as well as Blue Ferry since then Greek boats have been dramatically improved i recommend it
reply

Definitely looks more luxurious than the SuperFast Ferry we took from Patra, Greece to Bari, Italy! But our overnight ferry was quite an adventure!
reply

So what did you think of Herakleion? Did u like the city? I believe its the same as the ship. some things are great and other not so much
reply

Thank youuuu! I was thinking of booking it and just wanted to see how it looks like. It sounds great! I'll definitely be going for it
reply

Can you tell us more about the hotel you stayed at in Crete that was within walking distance of the ferry? I'm very interested.
reply

He's actually very correct and the term salty sailor is being very polite as regards to the majority of Greek passenger ships
