Flying to KILIMANJARO with Air Kenya. 2020 was tough.

The airliner was a 22 year old 747SP-44 (ZS-SPA, the only aeroplane flown by Alliance Air (Uganda) and it was leased from SAA. The airliner was only about a third occupied at most. When the plane landed at Entebbe airport and we spent about 2 hours on the tarmac, the crew left the rear passenger cabin door wide open with a great view out over Lake Victoria and a very long, unprotected fall to the tarmac below. Alliance Air (Uganda) was a joint venture with SAA and the governments of Tanzania and Uganda. It flew from 1995 and was wound up in 2000, only ever servicing four airports; Entebbe, Kilimanjaro International, Dar es Salaam and London Heathrow. The airliner itself stopped flying in 1999.

Your comments about hate on the internet makes me sad that people are able to behave so poorly on the internet and avoid hate speech laws. It also made me so very grateful to live in New Zealand. Apart from not being able to travel overseas easily, we have had a normal summer with no domestic restrictions at all. Thank you for your videos Noel. All the best for the new year.

If you get a chance the Air Tindi Dash 7 out of Yellowknife is quite the experience. It is a combi, so you are sitting in the back with cargo between you and the flight deck! Hopefully the borders open soon and you can make a trip for either the midnight sun or Aurora Borealis. Keep up the good work, love the videos!

Thank you for your honesty in the description about Mind. I climbed Kilimanjaro in 1972, all 19, 346 feet/ 5896m of it. A Olympic Airways DC10 circled the top while we were on top. A few minute slater a JAL Cargo jet circled the peak. I think they both were empty of passengers, as the pilots had their huge airplane standing on their wingtips! Quite exciting!

I don't watch all of your videos but every one I watched has been time well spent and taught me something. These aren't the ordinary London-New York Business Class reports but rather little documentaries about a country / continent from an aviation geek's perspective and I really enjoy that.

NBO>JRO was by far one of the scariest flights I have had the privilege of taking. Air Kenya has some chilled pilots, but was surprised they even considered flying that day. Still, we all made it and summited Kili successfully. Worth it!
