Noel, I can't say I'm a fan of Spirit but have flown them once or twice. I found the seat pitch tight. Southwest used to me my go-to airline and once I needed to take the family to Vegas (even the kids, this was a family visit) Uncharacteristically, SWA was about $200 RT. Spirit was less and even with the add-ons (I didn't go overboard on it) it was $100 RT each. For 7 people, it meant a $700 saving. Well worth it for a 1-hour flight. I've also flown RyanAir, and also wasn't too keen on the comfort, but even with all the add-ons, if managed reasonably, it was a very good deal. Economically, a-la-carte pricing is always cheaper in the long run for consumers than everything is included, this is true not just for air travel.
Also, regarding the lavatory that you didn't have to pay for - of course you did. On a few occasions I've flow business or first and one nice thing is not having to wait for a lavatory most of the time. There are more lavs per customer in the premium classes, and these come at the cost of removed revenue seats. Your ticket cost reflects that.

I noticed you metered the internet connection velocity. 128M Are you kidding Noel No one offers this velocity. I am supposed to have 400M fiber optic velocity here where I live, and when I metered the connection velocity it showed less than 1M, 780kbs to be exact. I sued the company for false advertising and for cheating people. It's all bs, ok They're lying to you. There's NO WAY you'll get 128M velocity on an airplane, ESPECIALLY United, one of the worst carriers in the States. And, why are you travelling literally non-stop when they charge you for what Carry-on luggage Then on top of that they charge you for checked luggage And you're still flying with these crooks Where I live, none of this is happening. I live outside of the US and damn pleased that I do. What really bothers me is that you continue to fly when they're charging you for carry-on luggage and checked luggage. Maybe I misunderstood, but this is what I got from your video. I would rather walk than pay these fees.

My wife has flown Spirit once, maybe twice (Somehow I unintentionally dodged those trips. She said the flight was fine, the seats were what you'd expect on an ultra low cost carrier, and she can do without snack service on those short flights. Her biggest concern with Spirit (and Frontier) when flying somewhere for a week or more is the 40 lb. limit on checked baggage (you can go over, but there's a steep fee if you do. The legacies and Southwest allow for 50 lb, which she tends to make the most of on anything more than a long weekend.
BTW Noel, you have to try Breeze, if you haven't already. I flew them CAK-MCO. It was actually a nice ride. David Neeleman's latest project seems to be passing the passenger test, as it's growing pretty quickly.

After I paid to choose my seat, have a carry-on and a checked bag, the cost was more than a United flight. I found the flight crew completely and totally unprofessional. As the plane went down the runway, one of the pilots yelled weee over the intercom. The flight attendants were also rude. In a taxi from Fort Lauderdale Airport to my hotel, I booked a flight home on United and did not take Spirit. I just ate the cost of the ticket. It was nice to go home on an airline with a professional crew and the difference between Spirt and United was literally night and day.

Plus an eight dollar muffin and coffee that you could probably get on the legacy carrier for free, is like highway robbery.

I don’t think you did such a good job on this one, comparing apples to apples.
While I agree that the United alternative was a smarter purchase in this case but you purchased items that were wasteful that didn’t need purchasing so in reality you would have spent less than you should have.
Most of the time, Spirit is a lot less of an option and is the best value in the sky for someone needing a large seat.
You also biased your preconceived idea of Spirit being a terrible experience but in fact it usually is just fine.
I think you could have done better with this one and could have been fairer and less biased to the airline.

I have flown spirit and I would do it again under specific circumstances. My wife and I wanted to take a weekend trip from Reno to Vegas. Spirit was $90 round trip total for 2 passengers assuming we only took backpacks with us. For a weekend trip, that was fine. I also occasionally have business meetings in LA and Vegas that are a 1 day out and back. For those, it's fine too. I currently have less ire for Spirit than for Southwest, whose cattle call seating caused my wife and I to get separated by the max number of seats. She was in the seat closest to the rear toilet. I was in the seat closest to the front toilet. She texted me from the back with never again.

A Brit, with a Brit passport trying to fly to El Salvador, without a visa! Whatever next! Well, it took a lot of explaining that no visa was required, even though I had flown to ES 5 weeks prior, without a visa, as could be seen in my passport. It took a lot of phone calls, a number of different supervisors who were also confused! I made my flight with about 5 minutes to spare! The plane was cramped and smelly. Yeah fly spirit, its a blast!

This video illustrates exactly why Spirit is having trouble filling seats now. People have caught on that if you need any add ons you are better off flying with mainline carrier.
Spirit is essentially the Greyhound of the skies. If you need a seat and have a tiny bag to hold you over a few days, sure you can stand the inconveniences and save some cash. But if you need more than a seat or want a higher level of service and comfort just book AMR, DAL or UAL and save yourself the misery of Spirit.

Even though I've flown either for free or cheap all my life (parents with American, brother with Southwest, I don't think I could ever fly Spirit if I was to lose those benefits. Sure, the base price might be cheap, but $50 for one carry on That's highway in the sky robbery. And since I'd never want to be separated from my sausage, I guess I'd be forced to pay it. I think I'd go with United, where they don't charge guys (and perhaps the occasional female) to bring their sausages on board.

The nice thing any Spirit is that you'll know you'll always be on an Airbus with better seat width. I've done the Big Front Seat before with just a small weekend bag and paid $100 to go from BOS to MIA. saved me a good $50 over the next closest legacy price with a regular economy seat. Like anything, know what you're getting and travel smart. I was flying down to transport a car back up to Boston. Those 3 comfy hours of sleep were a huge plus

when I go visit me parents in Florida from RDU, a backpack spot and 2 hours in whatever seat the give me is fine. They also send you an email to bid for seat upgrades, the minimum for exit rows is usually only $3 so I put in for that and I've won it each time. The economy seats they have are fine for short hops, but yeah, anything over that'd i'd opt for Big front seat. They are a fine airline as long as you know what you're in for!

Wow, Spirit sucks, what a pointless airline. I had no idea the domestic airline situation in the US was so bizarre. Do you even have premium airlines for flying around Europe If you do, I don't think I know of any of them what they'd be called. Yeah, there's first class options onboard for flights out of and into Europe, but I don't know of any that are for flying between 2 European destinations within Europe.

And somehow, the spunk muffin is the perfect accoutrement to a Spirit flight. Their offering is completely on point!

I flew Spirit from NJ to Orlando. No complaints. The staff were pretty good. They were all hispanic flught attendants and were talking in Spanish which didnt bother was kind of odd though. First time i seen that on a flight. You get what you pay for. For a short flight 5 hours or less would be alright anything more I would definitely want a more established airline.

Just goes to show you that unless as you say you only want the ironing board seat and nothing else then it’s cheaper but for myself I think I, d go on the United Airlines First Class, good review though.

The Spirit wireless speed was very impressive. That speed would be very good for 4G fixed wireless & living close to the tower. I wonder if that speed would hold up if 20 or 30 people were using it though As for the Spirit extras, seat selection and a carry on bag are essentials for me. And maybe a checked bag.

You're crazy you know that right I didn't know Spirit had Big Front Seats. so nice. Not a fan of that bulkhead seat for sure. Would have been about $340 on American.
