NEVADA: Towns Where The Old Wild West Still Lives Also, some friends and I snck up to John Waynes room at the Ormsby House when he was on town filming his last movie The Shootist, and the door to his room was actually cracked open. When it was my turn to peak in I was shocked, he was sitting at a desk writing. I was shocked because he was bald. I had never realized that and he was a really big man and old. We also saw Ron Howard walk across the area where the slots were, he had a beard and smoking a pipe. At that time Happy Days was primetime and I was shocked to see Richie Cunningham smoking a pipe. My family lived in Carson City when I was a teenager in the mid and late 70s, my little sister was born there. We were one of 4 African American families at the time. The husband of a neighbor of ours did maintainance for the Bunny Ranch, one Saturday he was called in for an emergency and with my parents permission I went with him. Got to conversate with a couple of the ladies there, they were really nice, it wasn't busy that time of day. I often hung out at Stewart Indian School and Carson Indian Colony with friends.

Carson city looks to be the town of dreams almost perfection, especially those white picket fences, houses well kept, good size sections, reminds one of the older TV shows when life was different, eben though they were filmed in studio sets and streets, all this thinking of life perfect, then one wakes up and faces reality.

Great video as usual. Love everywhere out in the southwest. Makes me more homesick every time. LoL. Especially liked Virginia city. Been there but it’s been quite a while. Thanks guys appreciate the ride along. And as usual the stats and interesting facts that you give every time. Have a great day off you deserve it.

I had no idea how right wing this place is. First visited in the early 60s. The place was a shambles. Smelled musty and moldy. Lots of renovation since then and the freeway makes it closer to Reno and Lake Tahoe. Bonanza was filmed on the North Shore of Tahoe. Native 3rd generation California here. (Sacramento.

I grew up in Reno. My great great grandfather was the Managing Editor or the Territorial Enterprise newspaper in Virginia City. Mark Twain was a writer at the paper at that time. Twain and my grandfather, left together to start another paper in the bay area. Mark Twain wrote his obituary. I have a copy!

Carson City is amazing. I lived there for 5 years. I miss it terribly. Great job showing us Virginia City, and Carson City. Oh, if you drive to 606 Mountain Street, you'll drive right up to the Governors Mansion. Every year, I used to take my daughter trick or treating there. It's a great city.

Lots of Snow there, No Cats, Say Hi to Nicky for me Virginia City, Nevada gets 19 inches of rain, on average, per year. The US average is 38 inches of rain per year.
Virginia City averages 114 inches of snow per year. The US average is 28 inches of snow per year. Need a Snowmobile for sure

My former Landlady at one time was a Virginia City Character that went by the name Miss Risky she sang and played the guitar or sometimes drums.
She occasionally got into conflicts with the Candy Store Lady, This commented the specialty flavor at that candy store was probably Horehound!

can't wait for your tour of California. there are so many beautiful small towns in the central valley of CA. I grew up in Esparto, located near the Capay Valley on the western side of the Central Valley. Our area is known for almond production and for hosting the annual Almond Festival.

Very cool video, I grew up in Reno area and we spent a lot of time visiting Virginia City, Carson City and surrounding towns and was always a blast, alot of history and all the historic buildings and community 's, thanks for the video, brings back a lot of fun memories

We were there in August, majority of the shops don’t open til 1: 00 pm. It is extremely run down. You would think the state of Nevada would put some money into it to restore its history. Shops that were open were very expensive. overall very disappointing!

Something to try while out west as an appetizer, Rocky Mountain Oysters. The ones I had were chicken fried thin-sliced (1/8) bull testicles. They were excellent and tasted just like beef tenderloin which is appropriate since that word contains loin. NO JOKE.

When you come back to the Silver State make sure you go to Pyramid Lake, one of only a few natural desert lakes in the world. just 40 some minutes north of Sparks. Pyramid Lake Paiute land, you do need to purchase a permit but it's not expensive and worth it.

Hi guys, Carson City isn't that the home of the Cartwright family Lovely area with outstanding architecture and the old town atmosphere encroached my living room here in south London, yahoo! Think I'll go rustle up some pork belly an' beans for breakfast.

Hi to both of you. Have to say, Highway 395 from Reno to Lone Pine following the Eastern Sierras is beautiful! Along the way you pass Genoa, an old Mormon settlement, that claims to have the oldest continuous bar in Nevada. Be safe out there.

This is the first chance I've had to sit down and watch you guys. I've had a crazy week. The house on Minnesota st. is going for $400, 000. It's another beauty. This is a very beautiful town. Thanks for sharing and happy travels.

When i think of nevada i think of dirt, trailers and not much nice stuff going on but its definitely nicer then i thought, at least this area but any state that is not by the ocean/coast to me is not a state and useless lolll

I like how informative you are and how you spread the info throughout the video, rather than giving it all to us at once lol. I'm into architecture, so it's cool that you emphasize on some of the buildings. Take care.

I was married at the Silver Queen in Virginia City in 2002, Since divorced but it's nice to see this place once again. If you like this type of town, and you are anywhere near Arkansas, you must visit Eureka Springs.

Very cool. The rural parts of the American West are still wild. Neighbors help each other, wave when they drive by, and everyone has at least one firearm. A lot less crime, that way. Thanks for the Nevada tour!

You didn’t see even 10% of Virginia City I was going to start following you but I know about Virginia City and so many different things you missed that were so cool I don’t even know why you bother to go

These videos are cool. I live in St George, UT, grew up in Carson City where I met my wife, and was born in Elko. We pass through Tonopah twice a year when we visit home. You hit them all, very cool!

Nice video! You have motivated me to take a trip out there. I've been to Vegas(shocking, Laughlin, and Pahrump. Heard a lot about ghost towns, too. Can you do a ghost town video in Nevada
reply

Funny how after all the small town middle America drives of yours I've seen, the first Trump 2024/Let's Go Brandon flags I've spotted are in a state which voted for Biden.

If I could live anywhere in the world, I think it would be Virginia City. I cannot wait to visit. I wish I had time to visit last time, but Reno was a really cool place.

I was born in Tulsa but we moved to this area as a kid and absolutely loved it. I am still in Nevada today and couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. Thanks for sharing!

Well you opened the eyes of those who have only flown to Vegas and back. Didn't know Nevada had mountains or hills. Feels like West Virginia. And pristine little towns.

Hi Joe
Thanks for this awesome video. Wow! Very well preserved history. 10: 40 I could see a rotten wodden support that added to the vintage feel of the video. Best.

Wow, this is fantastic Joe and Nic, really enjoying your trip out west. I’ll probably never be able to go to your bringing them to life. Thank you very much.

I was in the bucket of blood saloon years ago, have always wanted to go back. Haven’t made it yet could never afford to live there. Maybe I could rent a room

You missed out on touring the inside of some Silver Baron's mansions in Virginia City as well as getting to tour the Virginia City silver mines and cemetery.

Suggestion for the western Washington trip. Several small towns that started as Lewis & Clark encampments. Well worth seeing. Cathlamet & Skamokawa.
