NEVADA: Brothels, Saloons, Gambling, Gold Mining - The 1800's Live On Here! Haven been there in over 50 years but Star Boardinghouse, was one of the most excellent eating places in Nevada, at the time it was still an active boardinghouse. At 5: 00pm the dinner bell was rung. My absolute favorite was lamb chops, rare. Old fella commented me one time, Mr you sure know how to eat lamb, as I’m gnawing on the bone. Fond memories. Seems the dinner price was around $6-7, only item I saw missing was a plate of green onions, peppers and salami.
Incidentally at that time, the railroad ran through the area that is now the large parking lot.

I think I like Elko the best out of the Nevada towns you were at. I just got bad vibes on the other ones. The others seemed run down and disorganized. When you walked in the Star, The people had a hometown look. It gave me the notion that I would yell out, Howdy! as I entered. The food there looked interesting. Spaghetti seemed out of place, among the other things that seemed out of place. Had to look up Basque, which is too much to explain here. Noted in the diet is Lamb, fish and beans which you have shown with your meal.

How has Elko got so many brothels when the population is minimal and it's a bit of a shithole The women must be earning peanuts. I can't see any passing trade either. Is the cemetery the dead centre of Elko Bad pun I know. Still loving these videos nic and joe. If it isn't too exhausting keep em coming as i'm loving these videos miles away from what you normally see (The nauseating Hollywood, bwaaah. Big thumbs up from me and the war office in England

In yet another sin city - nice to hear that you spent a lot of time there in the brothels when you were young - I don't blame you one iota! .Never heard of a shotgun house - sorta like a shotgun wedding I'm sure there were many performed there in that town! . Good grief! It's a wonder you guys don't weigh 300 pounds (each) with all that food you consume! As usual, I'll stick with the appetizers and a scoop of ice cream for dessert!

When my cousin came over to visit from the US, he'd never eaten lamb in his life before. Here in the UK, it's really popular, and in fact it's my favourite meat, the flavour is incredible. If anyone from the US reads this and has never tried lamb, and is an omnivore, you should really look out for it. Properly cooked it is so succulent, tender and that incredible flavour. : )

These are great! Been watching your stuff for years! If you make your way to Idaho Falls. Make sure to drive up and down 13th, 12th, 11th, 10th, and 9th streets between boulevard and Holmes just east of downtown to see well kept old homes that I’m sure you’ll enjoy. Also walk around the river and visit downtown, I’m sure you’ll like it. Keep up the good stuff.

Another great video. I wish you had shown a brothel menu. I am interested in seeing what inflation has done to the diddling business. If they offered a nice buffet lunch after your visit I might be willing to catch a greyhound bus and enjoy some of what Nevada has to offer. Be safe going to Utah- Sincerely, Jim Thornton

Lamoille Canyon up in the Ruby Mountains is worth checking out, especially in the summer, it’s cooler up there. We have a couple of acres out by Ryndon, the north fork of the Humboldt River flows right through the corner of the property. We like to go down there and camp for a week when we can.

I lived on Oak for 4 yrs next to the house for sale, 1986-90. Worked at Newmont Gold. Loved the Ruby Mts and
Ruby Marshes, large bird migratory rt. One year the Monarch Butterflies migrated thru town with a lot of Hummingbirds.
Nice town, one of the best in my mining career.

My high school friend lives in Elko, and I visit every few years.
Fishing is actually pretty good if you know where to look

Thanks for another amazing video. My family patiently waits for every new one that you post. I do have a question though. As a couple how difficult is it for you to be together 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Sorry I'm not being nosy just curious

Great videos. All great interesting towns, even the ones that are dying. Unfortunately, I will never set foot in any of these towns. Being of mixed ethnicity I would be asking for serious unwanted trouble from harassment to even death.

Nic, love your videos and I'm a fan. A suggestion, consider using a bass filter that will take the low rumble noise out of your car engine as you drive so our subwoofers and headphones don't overload us with low bass rumble. Thanks!

Mona's was the inspiration for the name of Mona Ramsey in the Tales of the City books by Armistead Maupin. Her grandmother was also named Mona and ran a brothel in Nevada (though in the book it was located outside Winnemuca)

I heard that an entire Basque family tried to leave Elko courthouse at the same time, via the revolving door, and they were all ejected onto the sidewalk in a heap. Moral of the story: don't put all your Basques in one exit

A DJ who used to be on here in Phoenix is from Elko. He seemed really happy to have made it out of Elko. Though he did admit to losing his virginity in one of the town’s brothels.

I love go-o-o-o-old. The look of it, the taste of it, the smell of it, the texture. I love gold so much I even lost my genitalia in an unfortunate smelting accident.

Nicole's pretty green nails go good with that mint. I never ate lamb in my life. That was a lot of food. I want to go to Elko, NV. now, to the Red light district.

Thank you for touring our town. I moved here from California over 2 years ago and I love our small town. Also thanks for the facts about our town which I didn't know

Do not pass up a chance of having a meal at The Star. One of the best steak dinners I've ever had. If you've never been to a Basque restaurant this will spoil you for life.

Mint Jelly is usually served with lamb, NOT sure why but i remember when I was young at my family's house we always had the mint jelly with the lamb. And I LOVE Lamb!

Your tours are intresting but you missed a great trip in PA. You should look into following the Lincoln highway from Breesewood towards Pittsburgh.

On the opposite he can pay a quick visit every time his wife has a headache or something lol

Time for a new osmo pocket or whatever you're using. I'm enjoying the content but the horizon is not straight and it makes it a bit sickening.
