Florida Woman - Eats Trash, Saves Turtle From Raccoon Michael: Hi Dixie. Really enjoying your Florida Trail adventure. Living out in CA now is great without the humidity and bugs, but I grew up in Melbourne and graduated high school in '69. Lifeguarded in the summers at Indialantic Beach and other spots in the county. Used to camp our west of town and out on the little islands in the middle of the Indian River. Was a fun and pretty good place to explore as a kid. Stay well.

Oh, my goodness Dixie - this was amazing. I was petrified you would show us a snake and nearly jumped out of my skin when you showed the close up of the turtle yet I enjoyed it so much and before I knew it, it was over. Bless that lady who put you up in one of the rooms was so nice of her to extend her hospitality to you two. You clearly share your love of the Florida outdoors with your father which draws you to the wilderness, but also your mother loves the outdoors; now you are such a wonderful role model to your goddaughter.
I enjoy your photography, the edits, and choosing Scheherazade for one of your segments was awesome. thank you very much.

don't they have panthers in Florida?
if they do, are they in the area you are hiking in?
are you taking the same food precautions with alligators that you do with bears? (storing your food in bear cans and hanging it in trees away from camp at night) -- is that even necessary? are alligators attracted to hikers's food the way bears are?
you always say you're a cold sleeper -- how are the nights in Florida now? I can't imagine you need the same kind of gear you needed for the Appalachian or PCT or CT

This was a special one! I m a Florida native originally too - I was born and lived in Orlando before my family moved to Alabama. I ve got a good friend that helped me get into hiking who lives in Melbourne now and GOSH this series makes me want to see if he wants to do some sections of the FT with me at some point. Hope you re enjoying it and that Miss Fancy is doing well! I think of you guys all the time.

its interesting to see that this trail is a completely different story than the others before. its less about hiking and more about personal closure. its probably a super important experience. and it probably has positive impact on future adventures.
i feel like each interpretation of a trail we get to see is like an album by a music artist and has its own character in the whole discography.

I've been following along since very early in your Appalachian Trail journey, but I've especially been enjoying these Florida Trail videos as this is a trail that isn't often covered by thru-hikers! Also, I wanted to chime in to say that the very last shot in this video was breathtakingly beautiful -- the perfect ending to the segment. Thanks again for sharing these with us!

I gotta get me my Dixie fix. And coffee. 2 very important things. Keep it up on the smell training but sniff many different oils daily, like from citrus, to Eucalyptus, to lavender, to cloves. Keep rotating those oils. Take a good anti inflammation mushroom powder, capsule, or tincture. It will take a while.

Dixie, this was just beautiful, and probably one of your best hiking videos yet. IMHO.
I really liked the narration and the slice of life feel you showed shared with us. Thank you!
Bless the two of you.
Be safe and get well.
Cheers

The title of your video made me laugh so hard I literally just woke up my dogs (it's almost midnight and I should be in bed, but watching your latest vid is way better! . Love all your videos! You're so authentic and inspiring! THANK YOU!

I would not worry about Pigmy Rattlesnakes. Water Moccasins are the snakes you need to worry about in Florida. They have a distinct smell, hiss, and are pretty aggressive at defending territory. Nasty critters.
