Zpacks sells poles that make this tent completely freestanding! If you use them they only weigh 11 more ounces. So with that option it is only a total of about 2 lbs for a freestanding, super roomy, two door tent. Thats awesome to me! You can use your trekking poles with it at the same time to make it extra secure. They also sell fold-able poles to use instead of trekking poles if you don't use them want a backup that are only 5 oz combined.
What I love about the Duplex that separates it from the typical Big Agnes, Nemo, REI double wall tents that I always used, is you don't need a separate rain fly (rain flys are annoying to deal with and setup, snag/get caught on the zippers in my experience) and you don't need a footprint (another annoying and extra piece to worry about) All of the rain and bug protection are in one piece. Footprints for typical tents add even more weight that isn't listed as the tent weight.

OK -someone please explain to me the current vogue for the Duplex with solo thru-hikers. It's huge - bigger than anyone really needs just to sleep in. Which means a big footprint, more bulk to carry, and questionable performance in big wind (certainly here in the UK people have found it doesn't do so well on exposed sites. So you need a large, sheltered site, which restricts your options. There are smaller, lighter cuben options that are plenty big enough, or for just a few grams more you can get something like the TarpTent Notch which is much cheaper, more stormworthy, still offers two vestibules, and with a smaller footprint. But the Notch doesn't have the cool factor. I can't help thinking there's an element of fashion to this.

I have ultralight freestanding tents and also those tents that require trekking poles.
To save a pound I lost the freestanding feature. The tents requiring staking and trekking poles were a pain.
Instead, I just lost a bunch of pounds in belly fat and stayed with the ultralight freestanding tent.
Besides, on mountain tops, there are places where I cant stake and sometimes just finding boulders is impossible. Hence, no way to set up a tent requiring staking.

First I would like to thank you for your videos I love the adventure you got me pumped up wanting to hit the trail I've been collecting some gear I'm really struggling on whether the zpacks duplex is worth the 600 since you've had yours and you have used it would you buy it again

I have a tent question. How do you set a tent up to stop condensation? Been practicing in the yard and even without being in it I have condensation dripping everywhere. I have the 2 top vents open as far as they will open. I will try leaving the outer doors open a little. Thanks

WOW Dixie the way you tortured that Zpacks tent along the way. yes I watched all the pct vid's. I think it held up incredibly well.
