Dixie, Regarding an optimal sleeping pad, it bewilders me that the industry has not yet provided a shape that matches that of the normal sleeping position, i. e. curled into a snug fetal position. It would be shorter but wider, more of an oval, and such a shape would be especially useful for hammock sleeping. Since I sleep most summer nights in a hammock (at home) I have buttressed the sides where butt and knees hang over with two extra pads, however when I'm out backpacking I of course want to carry only one. What do you think? :)

I have that same Zpacks bag and I just use my puffer and throw the puffer over my head. It also serves the purpose then of blocking out some of the environment. Like say moonlight shining through the tent or rabbits eating leaves right outside my tent or whatever. Both of which I experienced last weekend. Also this arrangement of throwing the puffer over your head is the only way I have found that really works well if you sleep on your stomach.

A mummy bag by definition has a hood, that is what makes it mummy because you look like a mummy! Also mummy bag is warmer because bag is 99. 9% enclosed instead that big open top to allow heat escape. Exposed head=major heat loss. Almost 400 bag and you have to supply accessories to keep warm? Sorry but I think you're a victim of good advertising not supported by real performance.

I understand the ounces make pounds thought but there is a point of less return. If you are not getting enough rest and recovery that can make you feel like crap, so why risk it on such a small return? I don't get it in this case. Is it, I liked it on amazon and someone bought it so I'm going to use it thing? Really searching for the answer.

Great video, I have the ZPacks 40 degree bag and a EE Revelation 20 Degree quilt. Use the bag as you wish, but you may like to try sleeping with the zipper underneath you rather than on top, that's how it's designed to be used. The zip is a potential cold zone and you'll lose less heat with it between you and the sleep pad. Good luck on the PCT.

Nice choice on the bag, looked hard at Zpacks Quilts & Bags. Decided to go with a Katabatic 5 Degree for the first two months on The AT, starting out Feb 1st and I'm a cold sleeper. Brrrrrr, lol. One small thing, zipper beneath you so there is only down above you. With Quilts and Quilt Style Bags, a full length insulated pad would be nice.

Nice new gear! Totally agree with you about the foam pads, I wake up with back pain after sleeping on them, I'll always resort to an inflatable now. Just one tip, in cold weather, don't sleep with your mouth or nose in your sleeping bag as your breath with condense and risk making you wet and cold. Great video! Thanks for the upload!

Hi, I know you have chosen, but I bought a Big Agnes Mystic 15(F) which has an intetegrated sleeve for a pad. The pad I use is an exped (R5. Not sure of weights but they do synch down well and are light

Don't get the hoodless thing but been seeing it for the last 2 years. The head and neck is 65% of your body loss. Sooo you buy a hood to go with the hoodless bag and or hats, don't get it. But whatever.
