CDT 2018: Dixie hikes with several new people through one of the more brutal stretches of the CDT. leathersaddlehorse: Another great video, but I have to issue an urgent plea to all hikers and campers in general, be they hunters, through hikers, day hikers, or just plain walk-abouts. PLEASE do not camp right by a water source that is used by animals, be they wild or domestic. The animals walk many miles each day or every other day to get to that water, just like you do, and they can't carry any water with them. If there are people right by their water source, many can't or won't be able to drink. Just think in your own mind what it would be like to walk all day in the heat, and needing a drink in the worst way, but when you got to your water source, there was something there that would not let you drink, and the next water hole is too far away to get to. Please camp away from the water. How far? It is probably farther than you would think, using human distance and space values. Completely out of sight would be preferable, but in the desert, that might be a day's hike, so at the least, a hundred yards or more. The stockmen and wild animals that depend on these scarce water sources daily, thank you!

I've followed you since the AT, girl you are rocking it. I agree with the folk that say you are, at this point, a professional I hope this will lead into a career for you, you found your niche and I hope the outdoor community sees what we all see in you. I do hope you get sponsored by many, or all. Even if it's considered to be a sell out by some, it will provide for you and give us all a glimpse of the crazy and the wild and the untouched, from your perspective, which has been amazing thus far. you just keep on giving us this organic, real content, and we will keep on supporting you. much love D.

Dixie- I love your thought about respecting the people who made this journey before you. But I also would have you consider that prior to the Oregon Trail and Westward Expansion, the land that we live on today was home to Indigenous people. I hope you read this comment and give respect to the real first people who explored this land and treasured it before the US as we know it even existed.

I think it's kind of funny that people in the US always forget about the native people of america who have lived there for thousands of years, who have hiked and settled all around America, with no plain wagons or horses at all and certainly no guns or better hunting equipment. But yea, right, that was before they were almosts wiped out by the so called pioneers.

Boy friend Kyle? That is a great teaser for an upcoming episode. I really liked the shadow game you were playing at the end. funny. I love the up am down (mostly up) nature of your emotions as you hike. It is nice to see you being candid and talking about the good and bad days and what helps make bad days better. Keep it up. We are all rooting for you.

Interesting that you have people in their 60s hiking. Was that an isolated sighting or was it not particularly uncommon while hiking any of the big three? I ask because I am in my 60s and I probably wouldn't be watching these if I wasn't somewhat interested; however, If you asked me I would tell you I am not interested.

those pioneers paved the way for the united states to steal countless acres from native americans and helped the cause of committing genocide on that population. i understand your intention, which stems from how we have romanticized/propagandized that era, but i don't think those are the people you want to look up to.

Dixie.
I was planning on the PCT this year and along came Covid-19. Your PCT videos helped me with the disappointment. Your CDT videos have introduce a whole new opportunity. Looking forward to 2021.
BTW. Do you have a drone with you? Your videography is beautiful and so engaging.

playing catch up from last week. Your reflection about being on the Oregon Trail was exactly what I was thinking about since the start of this video. What an amazing experience! I'm not a hiker but I love your videos. Thank you!

I also think about those who came before us. I live in southern Arizona and every time I hike I think about what it must have been like for the Native Americans living in the desert hundreds of years ago.
