I loose the weight and go with nothing. If it rains it rains. If I cant cook I dont eat. If I get wet I'm wet. If I can't sleep I dont sleep. But I always wrap my pack in something. Rain will end. You can eat dry food. Sleep at some other point. Stay in place for a day or two, good time for some writing. But if the pack becomes soaked the trip might be over. But even just a lightweight tarp to taco in is helpful. And no set up. Watch out for fungus though. Athletes foot can get all over you. That's a big problem but just find some honey.

You discussed cooking in the vestibule during rain; do you do this in bear country? I thought you are supposed to cook away from camp in bear country. Curious on your input here or maybe you have a video that addresses this? BTW, thank you for sharing all your expertise. I find your videos so helpful and practical!

My old & trusty standard issue GI woodland camouflage poncho never fails. a little more weight but durable and very versatile. including rain cover, tarp, foot print(ground sheet - dating me) including many configurations for a tent. excellent presentation!

You speak well, and from experience, and I appreciate that fact. Most people live in a fantasy world. In my neck of the woods, there was/were, 4 SAR deployments this weekend. fools at best, . sad as an other option.

I packed a nylon pup tent years ago. I always ended up on the ground with out cover in all elements except snow. After a couple years, I left the tent at home.
