With 47 or 52 MPG combined (depending on the trim, the 2020 Sonata Hybrid is one of the most efficient cars available in America today. It's also a mild mannered mid-sized sedan with a big back seat and a huge trunk. Should this be on your shopping list in an era of low gas prices? Let's find out. Lavonte: It's a nice looking car but my only problem with the new Sonata is the wheel design they look too small or isn't attractive the only Sonata version that has good looking wheels is the upcoming N-Line

Alex many thanks for your detailed and consistent reviews. I am a big fanI like this front over the regular Sonata. Some notes on tech. Toyota is lacking in infotainment and driver assistance across product lines. The 2020 Camry has TSS-P v1. 0 which does not have lane centering or traffic signal recognition. There is no HUD, and no 360 camera. Accord has very good lane centering since 2018, has traffic signal recognition and a HUD. The highway driving effort is significantly reduced with these three features along with adaptive cruise that all three cars have. But the Accord does not have 360 camera, and the content available on HUD is limited compared to Sonata. For example Sonata shows blind spot and cross traffic alerts on the HUD. Sonata has lane centering, but it is so unreliable that you will never use it. Also Camry and Accord are supported by Open Pilot, which is a 1, 200 aftermarket add-on that adds Tesla Auto Pilot capability to many recent models, whereas Sonata is not. I think tech is very nuanced. Manufacturers check off a list of features, but the quality of those features can vary greatly. For example Tesla cars have rain sensing wipers, but they use camera and software to detect rain (no sensor, and so far their system is catching up to regular sensor based rain sensing. I think this is an opportunity for reviewers.

Bought a new Fusion Hybrid shortly after Ford announced they would cancel most cars and focus on SUVs. Turned out to be the right time to do so - I think I got almost 10k off MSRP. So far, the only issues I can think of are limited trunk space and dated interior. but those are things you are obviously aware of before you buy and they don't bother me. I get about 46 - 47 MPG average in it but I do drive around almost exclusively in eco mode which enables better throttle control (so you can drive around longer and more often in pure EV mode) and more regen braking. But I don't hypermile it - I drive it like a regular car, just in eco mode. Build quality is surprisingly good. No rattles or squeaks, no enormous panel gaps. Reliability, too, has been very good so far but obviously I haven't had it for that long. If you can live with the dated interior and smaller than average trunk space this seems to be a decent daily driver/commuter.

Why is it that car manufacturers are keep insisting in putting hybrid in their sedans? Toyota is the only one I know who released hybrid CUVs. The market has already rejected sedans and no matter how manufacturers dress them, consumers have spoken - they want taller cars with more trunk space, more road clearance and normal seats that are easy to get in or out. Where are the hybrid CUVs that people would actually buy?

I drove a 2016 sonata hybrid Limited 99, 000 miles in about 30 months as an Uber driver. I averaged 37 MPG over that time period. Based on your report, it looks like the 2020 sonata hybrid could improve that substantially. Now Im driving a 2019 Santa Fe Limited and averaging 24 MPG. I would love to see a hybrid power plant in the Santa Fe. Hopefully thats coming from Hyundai.

Style is subjective. but in my opinion, this car is absolutely awful looking. Rear end looks totally bizarre and the front end no better with its catfish mouth. Side view looks great. Excited to see Hyundai's next cars regardless - getting past the looks of this car - everything else is great, it seems.

I think I would be looking at a ford fusion hybrid - I get the A plan, and with gas prices being low (causing low demand for hybrids, the dealers looking to get the model off the lot (discontinued, and with car sales in general being low due to coronavirus, I think this is the time I should buy

I want it. The solar roof sold me because I think any electrified vehicle, appliance etc should have a solar component. Unfortunately, I already have a G35 I can use for long distance trips so when I trade my Altima I want to go full electric.

The looks have been growing on me as well. I'm not sure what is, but the hybrid looks so much better to my eye. Looks aside, this new generation Sonata has been a very impressive entry. I'm curious as to how the new optima will compare.

I also am warming up to the overall design of this new version of Sonata. I just would prefer that Hyundai would also deliver this in an AWD version, too. The solar roof is definitely a desirable feature as well.
