2019 BMW X7 First Drive BMWs American Flagship?

The new X7 can best be thought of as a stretched X5 and thats just fine by me. The latest X5 really impressed us with its more luxurious cabin and the refinement of its ride. The biggest change for the X5 of course in 2019 was the loss of the third row option. That makes sense of course because the X7 is now the BMW for you if you want a third row. With the X7 BMW decided to set their sights higher than making an XC90 or Q7 competitor and instead aimed straight for the jugular of the Mercdes GLS. Its apparent in the price tag, the performance, the size and, yes, even the luxury in the cabin. Does this make the X7 BMWs new American flagship?

Slight correction Alex. The X5 didnt start out the MY2019 without the third row. They initially launched with the third row option (requires air suspension) but removed it earlier this year (I think February. There are in fact still some X5s on dealer lots that have the third row, as well as those buyers who custom built their X5s that have the 3rd row. Its a shame because the row third in X5, while not suitable for adults, will absolutely work for kids or as emergency seating. The third row was a relative bargain at 2200, including the 1000 air suspension. It also upgrades the X5 from non-adjustable second row (no forward/backward or angle adjustment) to electronically controlled second row with forward/backward and angle adjustments. Great video as always, hope you feel better with your throat.

In a couple of years this will be in a used car lot for way less than its original value. Mercedes and BMW designs are getting dated and generic. They look the same from over a decade ago. At least Lexus has bravely come out with some new designs that look, modern, bold and sharp. Lexus vehicles are also built to last unlike German cars. when the Warranty is over, anything that breaks on that BMW will cost thousands of dollars to fix.

Weve been so well programmed and indoctrinated to accept ugly cars and designs that we actually ha e to to believe that hideous pieces of shit like the X7 are attractive or ok. If you really look at the X7 as a piece meal design, you realize its truly a hideous looking car. A typical overdesigned German turd made for the North American market. What a wasteful archaic philosophy.

Like the x5, buyers are playing Russian roulette with this. BMWs recent history with cheap parts you dont see (blower motors, water pumps, electronics, fluid leaks) has been disappointing. I would not trust any of their vehicles past 50k miles. The number of problems and the frequency with which they occur is unacceptable for modern cars.

Youre the best of the best but get some rest. Back in January I got a nasty cold and eventually it turned into bronchitis. To add to it I somehow picked up strep throat at the same time probably from when I decided on going to the mall to relieve the boredom. It was nasty.

Hope you feel better, theX7 is too rich for my blood. The Telluride has many of the features, granted with less power but the value proposition and reliability over time outweighs the BMW. However, if you can afford this you probably dont care about those things.

Looking forward to the wind and child generated rear door wide swing dings from this thing. Murican parking lots are not made to accommodate these things. Looks like a decent livery use vehicle with those nice 2nd and 3rd row seats.

Interesting of BMW to release the X7 before the redesign of the GLS. Now, Mercedes gets to steal BMWs thunder. Lincoln is in the same position with the Navigator vs the Cadillac Escalade, which will be redesigned shortly

The x7 looks very interesting. It looks really nice especially with the ivory and navy color combo. Kind of reminds of the upcoming palisade. But Id take the GLS63 AMG because its the same price as the x7 you tested.

Alex, great review as usual. My mind caught the attention of that tree house at 15: 00. OMG Surprised the building codes allowed that. Back to the review, cant wait to see the car in person and also the coming GLS. Thanks
