When looking for a luxurious (Jeep Compass, Kia Seltos) tall & small vehicle (Mercedes GLA, Mazda CX-30) with AWD (Lexus UX, Toyota HR-V) the Encore GX has features and reliability that few can match at this price. It is the ideal vehicle for a single person, DINKS or an empty nester couple. With selective options, the top of the line Essence trim provides a 64 height (Mazda, Lexus, Mercedes) with a luxurious interior with real leather seats (Kia, a comfortable ride with quiet tuning and sound deadening, AWD with a real 9 speed automatic transmission not a CVT or DCT (Lexus, Nissan, Kia, full complement of safety features including Automatic Emergency Braking and side blind zone alert, memory driver's seat and mirrors (my fav feature, power liftgate, power passenger seat, panoramic moonroof, heated seats & steering wheel, large touch screen with navigation (Mazda, HD backup camera, LED headlights & tail lights and an upgraded Bose stereo all for about 31K with current discounts (BMW, Audi, Volvo, Mercedes, Land Rover, Lexus, Lincoln, Cadillac. If you have kids or need lots of cargo space, why are you looking here in the first place? Go to some other less luxurious mainstream alternative or pay 10-15K more for the same stuff from BMW, Audi or Volvo (I would have said Mercedes but their entry in this segment is not tall and just a raised hatchback.

Up to 34, 000 for a 3 cylinder engine? A non-starter. GM cut out a cylinder, cheapened out on a radar adaptive cruise control system and kept the savings in their pockets. I laugh every time Alex tries to compare this to a BMW X1. The X1 is both larger and more powerful. This is competive to a Kia Seltos and the Seltos has more power and that missing cylinder for a better price. A Madza CX-30 is also a better choice. This not an alternative to the RAV4, Tiguan, or whatever Alex suggests. This is a more expensive version of the Trailblazer and a pricey competitor to the HRV, Seltos, Kona, Kicks, Ecosport, CH-R, and Renegade. Nobody is cross shopping this with the XC-40 or BMW X1 except those who don't know the difference.

I really believe that Buick has figured out the small-ute class. Since the Encore debuted, it has had a devout following. Unlike what Cadillac has done with the XT4, they're not trying to deliver the GX as a true alternative to a BMX X1 or Benz GLA. It is simply a polished everyday small CUV that does what buyers ask. I see a lot of seniors driving Encores, and I can see why. They've gone from Town Cars and Fleetwoods to Encores and others because, outside of sheer size and roominess, they offer refinement and hushed driving dynamics that they require. I will be curious to see how the 3cyl holds up over time though. It brings back Geo Metro memories for me.

Garbage for an engine! Save your money and buy a four cylinder or six cylinder vehicle. Three cylinders will inevitably have reliability issues! These companies must think the American consumer has an endless supply of money and be willing to buy vehicles that have short shelf lives. We want vehicles that potentially can last a minimum of ten years. Ford, GM, and Fiat Chrysler get with the program! Stop with the insanity of producing three cylinder crap! If it s efficiency you re looking for, then try hybrid and/or plug in hybrid vehicles!

Completely different price point than the Volvo XC40. There is 3-5k on the hood in the Encore here where I am. Nothing off for the Volvo. The Rav4 looks/feels much much bigger on the outside and cargo. and going to be more expensive. The RAV4 is worth it if you plan to keep the car for a long time. The Encore is better value.

FYI Alex the 2021 CX-30 was announced this past week and they're not bringing the 2. 0L. Only change really is now the base model comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. If you're looking under 25K the amount of standard equipment in the CX-30 is hard to beat.

Thanks for this review. Buick discounts these heavily already. You can get the mid-tier Select with the 1. 3L, add the Experience Buick package which gets you the huge pano sunroof all for about 23500. That is about the same price as a Honda HR-V EX.

What is the deal with so many vehicles using combination LED and incandescent lights? How much more money could we talking about to (in this case) use an LED turn signal up front? I just don't understand. Either make it all-LED or don't bother.

I rented an Encore in Seattle because I ve never driven on. it s not quick. But otherwise, I liked it. Quiet gentle ride that you would expect in a much larger car. It rides tall so it feels rooming despite how small it is.

Don't think I'd consider this to be honest. I'd rather pay more for more premium car or go with a larger mainstream SUV if it was my pick. Even something like the new Bronco Sport would be a better pick IMO
