My turn to rant. Upstate? Seriously? You obviously think NYC is NYS. NYC is nothing to NYS, so if you look at a globe, and saw off NYC, what you have left is the actual State of NY. Syracuse being the actual center of the state makes you Down state NY. You maybe North of NYC, but you are hours away from being Upstate NY. Sorry, but it drives me crazy when people think NYC is all of NYS and they think that just because they are a little North of the city that they are in Upstate The State and the City are 2 different things. I live near a little town called Pulaski NY and our State Park that is near us is part of the Central NY Parks and Rec and I'm like 2 1/2hrs North of you so I'm still not considered Upstate by NYS standards. Getting to your rant, most of us get it, what you do is try and help people, and that's what the vids are for, and we all enjoy watching them, I look forward to seeing your next vid come out and see what you do to find and repair the problem. You may not think what you do is special, but I'm hear to tell you, what you know how to do with just scan tools is more than a lot of shops will take the time to do or maybe even understand what to do and I think that's what impresses people. Lets face it, we can all twist the wrench and replace a part, but knowing what to replace is what makes a good mechanic and when it come to that, you're miles ahead of some of the shops I've been to. I even had a dealership where I bought a car tell me my car showed no codes so it seemed to be running fine when it was clearly full of engine hesitation. But they didn't bother to drive it, just give it a quick scan and bill me. You would have driven it and taken the time to look for a problem, that's what makes you a good mechanic. Keep doing what you do Down there and we'll keep watching.

Sorry to hear about folks calling your shop. I think people get the feeling they know you when they don't. For what it's worth, I'll never call. Anyway, I've learned a lot watching your videos. I even bought an Autel MP808BT. I was able to diagnose a bad fuel tank pressure sensor on my 02 Suburban. I ended up having a local shop replace it. They wanted to diagnose it themselves. I was ok with that. But they were not able to diagnose the problem. So they changed the sensor and the fuel pump I bought, both from Rock Auto. I figured while the tank was out might as well replace the pump. That took care of my Evap problem. I figure the Autel saved me 100 on that one. And I wouldn't have known where to start without your videos. Yeah I know I should have checked the powers and grounds before changing the sensor. But I'm 63 and Oregon was wet that time of year. You're better than you're giving yourself credit for in this video. We appreciate your videos. Thanks! Maybe you should end your videos with: If I can do it, you can do it. So don't call me!

SPOCK, I don't care about all the recorded colorful metaphors, just beam him up here!
Jim, it's my duty to remind you that this will be a violation of the prime directive.
Prime directive, schmime directive, damn it Spock get him up here, those phase inducers aren't going to fix themselves.
Mrs. O. Sweetheart, lunch is ready. Eric. Eric? Josh, were's Eric?
Dunno, Mrs. O, he was here a minute ago.
With Scotty's help, Eric ended up fixing the Enterprise's crusty phase inducers and as a token of appreciation Kirk gave
Eric a Tri-corder! Regardless, Eric was careful to remind Kirk that he doesn't like repairing out of town junkers.
Everyone in the transporter room, except Spock, laughed out loud.
Later in the shop, Eric was heard to exclaim, This Tri-corder's the best damn scan tool I've ever used. I can fix anything with this!

I'm not sure if you will see this in the sea of comments, but I might have a suggestion for you. Perhaps you could setup an online straw poll, or setup an email address (or maybe a separate phone number that only goes to voicemail) where viewers with problems can post their issues, NOT necessarily for you to fix (unless you choose to do so) but so you can get an idea of what kinds of problems are most commonly faced or other interesting issues that have not been covered in previous videos. That way if you run across a similar repair in your shop you can make a mental note to record it if possible. I know you joke about making brake videos over and over again, so maybe you can use the people reaching out to you for inspiration.

Your position on not having people drive to your shop or to give advice over the phone is one of the smartest things that I have heard you say to date. :-. No seriously you make sense and if people can not understand that its on them and not you. As it is you spend more time on a job that usual because you are talking to the camera so much. If you tried to take phone calls, run the shop, have shop play time visits, do your editing and posting and have a family. everything would suffer and you would eventually have to revert back to just doing your videos, running the shop and having a family. So you're not being a prick or a hard ass. Thanks for the videos and your time. Anything more than that ain't happening

You're selling yourself short, Mr. O. You're as honest as the day is long. You treat your customers fairly & honestly and aren't willing to fire the parts cannon just to pad an invoice.
You're good people. I appreciate that more than most anything. You have a good heart. It's rare in this day and age.
How many shops send you things they can't fix? We've seen it.
No, maybe you're not god but you'd be the only one I'd let touch my car if I was local to you.
Keep making videos, please. SMA is one of my happy places.
Sorry for the ramble, in the hospital and heavily medicated.

I know it might be a big ask but maybe you can set up a forums like I think ETCG has? That way you can have these questions directed somewhere that's not your business phone line. If making your own is a bit much, maybe you could partner with one out there, and start directing people there to hopefully lessen the amount of callers you get. Either way I'm sorry you have to deal with a problem like this. It blows my mind that people can't understand a simple concept like this.

Hi There Eric, You do yourself a diservice, you are a very logical and thorough trouble shooting technician. I really enjoy the videos, so dont stop producing them as I need something amusing and interesting to view every now and then. I' m afraid many of the shops over here in the UK are just parts swappers, especially main dealerships. You can always tell where your local good guy operates from, because you will wait weeks to get your car in for repair.
