Hi Eric, As I have mentioned in the past, I am a retired purchasing agent from Silent Chain/Sprocket Manufacturer, Ramsey Products. Once upon a time we had some problems with chains and sprockets developing surface rust on the long boats rides from Charleston, SC to Europe and further rides to the Eastern hemisphere. We discovered, overtime, the practice of brushing down our chains and sprockets with our homemade rust preventative, prior to packaging, had stopped. The recipe was a mix of weigh oil, rust preventative and a small percentage of mineral spirits. The mineral spirits provided at bit of thinning to the mix allowing it to coat the parts evenly. As the chains or sprocket sat the recipe would slowly dry on the parts proving a barrier to moisture. Well, once we began coating the chains and sprockets again, prior to packing, our problems with rusting, in transit, stopped. VCI paper is great stuff, but it is very expensive compared to the recipe. I hope I haven't bored you to death. I imagine spring is starting to knock on the door up there in the Northwoods. I hope all is well in O household. Take care, ASH

Eric, the question is why did you forget? At least you still have some frost on your head for protection. I lost all of mine due to Alopecia. You need protection from all of that rust floating around up there in the rust belt but I need protection from the sun rays here in sunny Florida. A sunburn on your scalp isn't fun. Hang a hat rack in your office and keep a couple of extra hats there and while you're at it throw an extra one or two in your vehicles. And those are my questions, comments and concerns as ordered by you.

I need a little help here. Have a 2014 Nissan Versa note sv. Has about 76, 000 miles on it. It has never gotten better than 26 mpg. I just smogged it and it passed no problem. I noticed the inside of the exhaust tip is black a sooty. To me, this means it is running rich. Since there are no codes, what items can I change that would change the air fuel ratio? I was thinking of putting a hitter plug, maybe another MAS. Runs fine, but would really like to get the 40 plus mpg that it was advertised for.

I ask you, which is worse: The caliper hanging from the hose, or the shock load to the hose when it inevitably falls off from wherever you tried to jam it? In all the hundreds of brake jobs I did I almost never remembered to grab the hanger until after it fell off from wherever I put it. Even with that I never had a hose fail. I suppose if it breaks the hose and falls on the floor, you should probably be changing the hose anyway.

a few things 1) always have 2 or 3 backup hats hanging on a peg at the shop. i have about 8 spare hats at various strategic locations and in my car 2) get to the doctor and have some basic screening bloodwork done. that dam brake cleaner fluid is full of toluene and xylene and other volatile hydrocarbons that are notorious carcinogens and should never be inhaled. you go through the stuff by the gallon

That wheel bearing looked like a utility trailer torque instead - where you tighten it to the point it won't turn, then back it off and call it good. Works great for trailers. Cars and trucks - not so much! As far as getting tired of them - no, because they all have their own little quirks and tips that we can learn from.

There is a very old saying I remember when men were men and sheep were nervous! Oh wait wrong saying! OOPS!
If the job is too tough for everyone else, the job is then just right for me.
May the Pixies of Harmony censure all the cuss words for those of faint hearts!
Best of luck on the van of horror.

Broke 3, 1/2 Breaker bars (SO, OG Craftsman, Matco) trying to get a VW axle nut off. All impacts; didn't care. Needed a 3/4 bar and jack handle to finally get it off. Likewise torquing the nut back on I was sure The head was going to snap off and have me faceplant some cement.

Those rusty rotors bring me back to a problem Chrysler had on the old caravans 1996-2000 they used recycled metal on the strut towers and not all the rest was taken out apparently which caused premature rusting I think the same thing goes through to those rotors recycled metal
